I thought Hillary Clinton would be the strongest in the GE
I grew up in Kansas and have lived the past 15 years in Missouri. I was a Kucinich supporter in 2004 and again in 2008. In 2004 it was decided before I had a chance to vote. I was not that big a fan of Kerry, I disliked his vote on the IR but was convinced by many here that he did not vote for war. Being in a swing state, Missouri, I did not think that he had much chance of taking this state. I respected him as a Senator but did not think that he was the right choice for our Presidential candidate. But I did support and voted for him in the general election and was heartbroken that he did not win. Because I knew it would hurt us in the end.

This gets me to today. Kucinich is the one that is the closest to my concerns. But he dropped out before Super Tuesday, I than supported Edwards until he also dropped out. I had to decide whom I thought would be the best candidate to run in Missouri. I like both and finally decided upon Hillary. Knowing the rural areas of Missouri and Kansas it seemed to me that it would be easier to "sell" an older white woman than a younger black man. That sounds racist I know but the truth is that there are plenty of racists in these two states, I have heard it from conservative Dems and Repubs alike. I know that she voted for the IR but so did Kerry, I know that she is more conservative than what I would like but I thought that could actually help her in Missouri. I also thought that Clinton would be more likely to resist the right wing. But maybe I was wrong. I voted for the pragmatic choice, at least it seemed so at the time.

Currently it looks like Obama is going to be the nominee. If he is I wish him luck, I wish us luck. I hope that his vision for the future can overcome the hate that we all know will come from the right wing. I will work to "sell" whomever is the Dem to those around me. Myself and my family are going to vote Democratic no matter who is the nominee. We cannot afford to have another Rep as President.

2. let me ask you an honest question
do you think obama will win in the general election.
i was for edwards but he dropped out before my state voted. i voted for hillary in my primary. i don't know how much of a chance she would have in november even if she were to win the nomination, but i don't think obama will win either. i'm afraid that when the repubs nominated mccain he became the most likely to be the next president. jmo

3. If a majority of voters choose McCain, then this country gets what it asks for.
I've never felt Hillary would be a strong contender in the GE, though.

4. that's a good reply
but the same thing was said in 2000 & 2004. i remember when so many went for nader in 2000, because he was no different than bush, the press smeared gore everyday, made up stupid shit that he never said, and ran with it like it had rock solid foundations. the press wouldn't hear a bad word about bush, sat on his dui story, and waved off any real questions about his qualifications for the job. he was a uniter, he would restore honor and dignity to the whitehouse. now 8 years later it's the same shit against hillary, only this time they're doing it in the primary with another democrat. hillary has been smeared everyday, obama has everybody in the press screening him, they've waved off any questions about his qualifications, he's running on hope and change and yes we can. when the time comes they'll deconstruct obama and mccain will win the presidency.

8. Here are the qualifications to be President:
Age and Citizenship requirements - US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

Term limit amendment - US Constitution, Amendment XXII, Section 1 – ratified February 27, 1951

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If McCain wins it is because the voters like the direction this country is taking. I won't be any part of that, but there you go.

5. I think either Hillary or Barack would/will beat the fuck out of McCrazy.
Nobody will call me an optimist, except when it comes to a Rove indictment or Al Gore, but I don't think McLovin has a chance in hell.

He's Bob Dole squared.

7. right
i remember how we were going to take bush down in 2004.
there were people here like you who couldn't fathom how kerry wouldn't beat bush. bushs popularity was already waning, kerry was a war hero, the economy was getting worse and a majority of the people felt the country was going in the wrong direction. bush didn't have a chance against kerry.
look how that turned out. to quote an old friend of mine "never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups"
mccain is going to be a lot harder to beat than many here think.
he's popular with a majority of repubs, not the far rw but the more normal ones. he's popular with independents, and he's popular with older more conservative democrats. imo even the wingnuts vote for him at the end of the day.
