Exactly who is running Obama's campaign? Let's take a peek....
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 06:33 PM by jlake
Penny Pritzker is Obama's campaign finance manager.

Multi Billionaire. Responsible for the Subprime Mortgage crisis. CONTROLS one of the main credit bureaus in the US.

"Penny Pritzker is an American billionaire (net worth $2.8 billion USD), the granddaughter of Abram Nicholas Pritzker and the niece of Jay Pritzker. She is the Founder/Chairman/CEO of Classic Residence by Hyatt, a luxury senior living communites spread throughtout the United States.

She is ranked 135th on the 2007 Forbes list of richest Americans. She has sat on Harvard's Board of Overseers since 2002, and is active in numerous philanthropic and civic endeavors, including Chicago's Millennium Park. She has also developed a Chicago skyscraper, been president of commercial and residential real estate firms, and served as chairman for a major credit-reporting company. Currently, she is the national finance chairwoman of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

On Febraury 20, 2008, Flashpoints Radio produced an investigative report segment into how Penny Pritzker, the 2008 campaign finance chairman for Barack Obama, was a key mover and shaker in creating the current predatory lending (aka. sub-prime) crisis. According to bank scandal investigative reporter Tim Anderson, Superior Bank, FSB of Hinsdale, Illinois, which was owned by the Pritzker family and overseen by Penny Pritzker until closed by the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named Receiver. Superior Bank developed the original mortgage securitation package, putting mortgages into a bond and then selling the bond. Along with Merrill Lynch and their accountants at Ernst & Young LLP began the process of turning the American Dream into the American Nightmare for millions of low and middle income Americans."

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Pritzker & http://www.forbes.com/lists/2005/11/CDNP.html

So one of the wealthiest people in the world, who helped *create* the subprime mortgage crisis is his campaign finance manager.
Yes, he is a man of the people who shuns big money.

GET REAL!

33. No, it's siding with being responsible
and being accountable, and being a decent frickin' citizen.

The people that intentionally got in over their heads because they gambled that their mortgages wouldn't go up were fools, and those of us that pay our bills and don't bite off more than we can chew will pay for their foolishness.

The value of my home has dropped, and housing sales are in the tank because of this subprime mess. I'm in the military, so if I get orders and have to move, the chance of me being able to sell my house to break even is pretty low, meaning I'll have to either sell my house for a big loss, spend money to give to a realty agency to oversee the house and find renters that won't trash the home, or leave the house vacant and move into another home at my next duty station and have a mortgage AND a rent or mortgage payment there, as well.

16. So personal resonsibility
doesn't play a factor here?

Look, some people genuinely got screwed. But a lot of people bit off more than they could chew, and the lending companies let them. There's plenty of blame to go around, and it's not all at the hands of the mortgage companies.

47. That just isn't true;
mortgages have been used as a basis for securities for decades. It didn't start with Superior Bank. You obviously a) don't actually know what you're talking about and b) are to lazy to do any research to attempt to verify your claims.

From Wikipedia (sourced partly from a Federal Reserve publication, the 'Asset Securitization Comptroller's Handbook', and partly from Deutsch Bank info):

"Asset securitization began with the structured financing of mortgage pools in the 1970s. For decades before that, banks were essentially portfolio lenders; they held loans until they matured or were paid off. These loans were funded principally by deposits, and sometimes by debt, which was a direct obligation of the bank (rather than a claim on specific assets). But after World War II, depository institutions simply could not keep pace with the rising demand for housing credit. Banks, as well as other financial intermediaries sensing a market opportunity, sought ways of increasing the sources of mortgage funding. To attract investors, investment bankers eventually developed an investment vehicle that isolated defined mortgage pools, segmented the credit risk, and structured the cash flows from the underlying loans. Although it took several years to develop efficient mortgage securitization structures, loan originators quickly realized the process was readily transferable to other types of loans as well."<4>

In February 1970, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development created the transaction using a mortgage-backed security. The Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA or Ginnie Mae) sold securities backed by a portfolio of mortgage loans. <10>

Penny Pritzker named Obama national finance chair.

Sweet blog scoop.

Billionaire business mogul Penny Pritzker will be the national finance chairman of Barack Obamas 2008 presidential campaign.

Pritzker, a major Democratic donor and fundraiser, whose family founded Hyatt Hotels, heads up the massive fundraising effort Obama is launching to bankroll what may be one of the most expensive Democratic primary campaigns ever.

Obama's first major fundraiser of his quest for the White House will be on Feb. 11 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

In the all important money primary, Obama is facing off with Hillary Clinton, who has an extensive national network of donors as well as the starpower of President Clinton to help her raise millions of dollars of campaign cash.

Pritzker was on the finance committee for Obamas 2004 Senate campaign.

A member of one of Chicagos wealthiest families, Pritzker is founder, chairman and CEO of Classic Residence by Hyatt.

She is also Vice Chairman of the Chicago Public Education Fund, a founding member of the Board of Young Womens Leadership Charter School.

Pritzker is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Real Estate Roundtable, the Urban Land Institute, the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Young Presidents' Organization, and the Chicago Network. She is a life trustee and former Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.

Pritzker earned her bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University and J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Stanford University.

Pritzker was named one of Forbes most powerful women in 2005.

The Obama national campaign headquarters will be in Chicago.

And she did it single-handedly, probably while cackling evilly and saying something like, "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!" Or maybe she ties fair maidens to the railroad tracks while twirling her moustache. And cackling evilly.

Clinton Response to Disgraced Fundraiser's Donations Sets New Standard for Political Campaigns

During the campaign-finance investigation, plenty of sleazy fundraising practices (of both Democrats and Republicans) were probed by House and Senate committees. Williams, for her part, became ensnared in an episode involving Johnny Chung, a Taiwan-born businessman and prominent contributor to the Democratic National Committee. A frequent White House visitor, Chung often hung out in the First Lady's office staringliterallyat pictures of Hillary Clinton. Williams' assistant, Evan Ryan, testified that that the First Lady's staff found Chung's visits "disturbing." But Williams told Senate investigators that because Chung was a "contributor," she instructed her office to treat him with respect, like "any other irritable jerk who would show up."

On December 19, 1994 the DNC received a $40,000 donation from Chung, and the next day he was allowed to bring a delegation of Chinese businessmen to the White House residence for a holiday reception, where Chung and the gang had their pictures taken with Bill and Hillary Clinton. Several months later, Chung asked Hillary Clinton's office for help on several fronts. He wanted a photo with Hillary, a tour of the premises, lunch in the White House mess, and an invitation to bring another delegation of Chinese business associates to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to attend the President's weekly radio address. Ryan, Williams' assistant, testified that she had told her boss about these requests and informed Williams that Chung intended to make a contribution to the Democratic Party. According to Ryan, Williams instructed her to help Chung and mentioned that perhaps the Democratic Party could use a donation from Chung to pay the White House money it was owed by the party. (The DNC, like other organizations, had to pay for expenses related to events it held at the White House.)

Chung's request was granted, and on March 9, 1995, he and his business pals were escorted by Ryan to the White House for lunch, given a private tour, and were taken to the Map Room for a photo op with the First Lady. Afterwards, Chung handed Williams a donation to the DNC, this time for $50,000. That weekend, he and his business associates attended the President's radio address.

A key issue was whether Williams and the First Lady's office had traded favors at the White House for campaign cash. In testimony before the Senate governmental affairs committee, Williams denied she had asked for the donation and said there had been no quid pro quo. She insisted that Chung had essentially shoved an unsolicited check into her hand and that she immediately dropped it in her outbox for forwarding to the DNCwithout even looking at the amount. She said that it was not unusual for Hillary Clinton's office to receive unsolicited contributions for the Democratic Party in the mail and that her aides routinely sent them on to the DNC. Chung told a different story, claiming Williams and Ryan had requested the donation.

Overall, Chung contributed $366,000 to the DNC between 1994 and 1996 (and eventually there were questions about whether this was his own money or whether he was fronting for other sources, including the Chinese government). It was pretty obvious at the time that he was looking to impress his business associates with the access those gifts won him. And that was a central part of the Clinton fundraising scandal: the selling (or renting) of access to whomever would donate big bucks to the DNC. Those who did so could brag to friends, clients, and business connections that they were well-wired into the Clinton White Houseand perhaps that helped them grease their own business deals. This sort of quasi-scam was not a Democratic or Clintonian sin. But the Clinton White House did perfect the art. (It is illegal to solicit or receive political contributions in government offices, but it was not clear if taking a check and placing it in an outboxas Williams said she did with Chung's donationwas a violation of the law.) In 1997, the DNC returned Chung's contributions.

In testimony before the Senate government affairs committeethen chaired by Republican Fred ThompsonWilliams downplayed the Chung episode. But on a few key points Ryan, her assistant, contradicted her. Years later, it's not unreasonable to look at the record and conclude that Williams was part of a shifty system in which the Clinton White House would hand out favors (maybe just small ones) for anyone brandishing a checkand that she might have stepped over the line in following this standard operating procedure.

Penny Pritzker is Obama's Finance Manager Do you know who Hillary Clinton's "finance manager" is.?

Penny Pritzker is one of the most active of celebrated Chicago patriarch Abraham N. Pritzker's 12 living grandchildren. A Harvard-trained attorney, Pritzker, 46, was chosen by her late uncle Jay to help oversee the family's vast portfolio of investments, including the Hyatt hotel chain and the Marmon Group industrial conglomerate. The $16.4 billion fortune has since been slated for a carve-up and will eventually include IPOs or outright sales of various Pritzker companies and assets. For now, Penny focuses on real estate investments, developing senior living facilities under the Hyatt Classic Residence name and office properties through a venture with Chicago-based Higgins Development Partners. The 49-story Hyatt Center skyscraper in Chicago's Loop, which she pushed in 2002, opened on July 19, 2005.
Stephane Fitch

http://www.observer.com/2007/obama-pritzkers-hillary-pr...

The warring (and incredibly wealthy) Pritzker family seems to have carried its feud into presidential politics.
Penny Pritzker, Barack Obama's national finance chair, is the niece of Jay Pritzker, whose death in 1999 sparked an ugly internecine inheritance battle over the Hyatt hotel chain and other enormous family assets.

A plan to pass control of the empire to Penny and two other relatives collapsed in 2001 when another wing of the family filed suit. A settlement was eventually reached, but apparently there are still plenty of grudges, which may explain the division of Pritzker names donating to Hillary Clinton and Obama.

Hillary has the support of the California Pritzkers, a branch that includes Penny's brother, Anthony N. Pritzker -- the director, and co-founder of the Pritzker Group. Jay Pritzker's son John A. Pritzker, who served in various executive positions within the Hyatt Corporation, and his wife Lisa Pritzker, a women's health advocate, are also with Hillary.

Obama has the Chicago Pritzkers behind him. There is Penny, of course, and also her cousin Thomas Pritzker, who, like her, was supposed to inherit the bulk of the family fortune before the lawsuits came. Thomas' wife, Margot, founder and president of WomenOnCall.org, and his mother, Marian, widow of Jay, also contributed to Obama. Karen Pritzker, who is from Chicago but just bought an apartment in Manhattan for $12.5 million, also gave to Obama.

Mark Penn's tangled corporate web: Clinton is a client; McCain is a client.
by Joe Sudbay (DC) 2/25/2008 10:18:00 AM ET
http://www.americablog.com/2008/02/mark-penns-tangled-c...

As has been widely reported, Hillary Clinton's top guru, Mark Penn, is leading the charge within the Clinton campaign to go aggressively negative against Obama. Besides the fact that Penn is the architect responsible for Hillary's presidential aspirations going from "inevitable" to being on life support, he is reportedly obsessed with destroying Obama. While it is understandable that Clinton's top adviser wants his client to win at all costs, going massively negative against Obama (or Hillary for that matter) risks damaging our candidate in the fall election against McCain. Unfortunately, this is something another "client" would welcome. That client is named John McCain.

Penn is the CEO of Burson-Marsteller, a DC public relations (PR) firm. Burson-Marsteller owns a subsidiary, BKSH. BKSH is run by Charlie Black. Black is a longtime Republican politico, and a top adviser for John McCain for President. And, as Think Progress notes, while Black is a volunteer on the McCain campaign, he views Mcain as his client and continues to take a paycheck from BKSH.

In the years of the Watergage scandal, Rove's career as a big-time political handler began with a motley crew of friends and associates. He was chairman of the College Republicans when George Herbert Walker Bush was chairman of the state Republican Party {sic -- actually the Republican National Committee} in 1973. He won the presidency of the College Republicans in a race against Terry Dolan. The late Lee Atwater, who later became famous as the political attack dog for the Reagan-Bush team, managed Rove's campaign. Dolan went on to become a Soft Money pioneer by helping form the National Conservative Political Action Committee, then died of AIDS in 1986 at age 36. Dolan's advisers in his loss to Rove were Charlie Black, Paul Manafort and Roger Stone. Those three were later instrumental in the success of Ronald Reagan's 1984 campaign.

Atwater joined the consulting firm of Black, Manafort and Stone after the '84 election. The firm later worked for the 1988 Bush-Quayle campaign. Two of Nixon's dirty tricksters also worked for Bush-Quayle: Frederick Malek, Bush's Republican National Committee rep, who had compiled lists of Jews in the Bureau of Labor Statistics as part of Nixon's investigation of a "Jewish Cabal;" and Dwight Chapin, who was jailed for lying to a grand jury about hiring Donald Sigretti to disrupt the 1972 Democratic primary campaign of Senator Edward Muskie. Chapin worked under Manafort in 1988. The firm's other clients included drug-connected Bahamian Prime Minister Oscar Pindling, Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, and UNITA, the South African-supported Angolan rebel group led by CIA asset Jonas Savimbi

A rather LARGE one, with over 100,000 employees.. you figure out which one. That same company is going very "green", and is one of the leaders in its industry with green inititives.

I can say that the Pritzkers are very involved in their local Chicago community, extremely charitible, and one of the largest/wealthiest DEMOCRATIC families in Chicago.

To say that Penny Pritzker single handedly created the subprime mortgage mess is hysterical.. no one has that kind of power. She has created a lot of money that has gone to charities and helped the poor people in Chicago. You left that part out of your article above. Perhaps that is the part about Penny that Obama seems to be tapping.

118. hey professor cut and paste-
all of you hill shills ought to come to chicago and get to know us.
the pritzker family is full of democratic funders and fundraisers. if any of you knew jack shit about the chicago dmeocratic party, you would just shut the fuck up.

and just a little btw- miseracordia, which is listed in david axelrod's bio posted in this thread, is a stellar organization for mentally disabled adults. one of chicago's social service giants.

bashing people because the are rich, and because they are from chicago may sound like saying something. but it is not. it is slander of the premiere democratic city on the fucking planet.
sad, really sad.

143. Obama's a more talented fraud than Hillary
Neither one of them is a saint, and some of the Obama supporters are embarrassing themselves by defending Obama's choice of Penny Pritzker. In their eyes Obama can do no wrong, and frankly it makes some of his supporters look like they are not thinking honestly. At any rate, just because Obama has some asses working for him doesn't mean he's any worse than Clinton. Further, Obama knows how to run a campaign and is a brilliant speaker, two things that a critical the marketing of the Democratic Party in November. Clinton's experience might cancel out Obama's brilliance, but her campaign sucks. She simply has less talented billionaires working for her.
