McCain Says He Could Lose Over War Issue
By LIZ SIDOTI

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (AP) — John McCain said Monday that to win the White House he must convince a war-weary country that U.S. policy in Iraq is succeeding. If he can't, "then I lose. I lose," the Republican said.

He quickly backed off that remark.

"Let me not put it that stark," the likely GOP nominee told reporters on his campaign bus. "Let me just put it this way: Americans will judge my candidacy first and foremost on how they believe I can lead the county both from our economy and for national security. Obviously, Iraq will play a role in their judgment of my ability to handle national security."

"If I may, I'd like to retract 'I'll lose.' But I don't think there's any doubt that how they judge Iraq will have a direct relation to their judgment of me, my support of the surge," McCain added. "Clearly, I am tied to it to a large degree."

--------
I hope that he does lose. I hope that the Dems win in a landslide victory.

1. There is no "could" about it. McCain will lose on his Endless War vision!
Plus he is truly a very old fart that looks older than Reagan did after his second term, and not witty at all.

3. He's the GOP sacrificial lamb.
No way can he get elected. The CONSERVATIVES HATE HIM!! They've got their hands full appealing to their own base. That's why Nader entered. He'll take GOP votes this time.

4. Though I will always disagree with him, I do respect John McCain.
Or at least as much as I can respect any Republican.

7. Iraq is his albatross.
That and the fact that he doesn't have a clue what to do to fix the economy, AND if I ever SAW a FLIP-FLOPPER....

mcCain mcCan't win without another (bigger) cheat.

8. Most of the American public...
doesn't like the way the war in Iraq is going to begin with, and all McCain can harp on is, "that this thing is important." I think that the public deserves a little more than that. Seriously. :eyes:
