After he used a right wing attack from 1994, he should have known.

17. Politicians always do dress-up photo-ops. Generally, other politicians are smart enough
to realize that attacking them on those is a stupid move. However, Clinton has been repeatedly proving that no attack is too stupid for her.

Politico: Obama slams smear photo
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 10:17 AM by Zueda
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8667.html

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe accused the Clinton campaign Monday of "shameful offensive fear-mongering" by circulating a photo as an attempted smear.

"The photo, taken in 2006, shows the Democrat front-runner dressed as a Somali Elder, during his visit to Wajir, a rural area in northeastern Kenya," the Drudge Report said.

The Clinton campaign did not deny the charge, but did not comment further

Plouffe said in a statement: On the very day that Senator Clinton is giving a speech about restoring respect for America in the world, her campaign has engaged in the most shameful, offensive fear-mongering weve seen from either party in this election. This is part of a disturbing pattern that led her county chairs to resign in Iowa, her campaign chairman to resign in New Hampshire, and its exactly the kind of divisive politics that turns away Americans of all parties and diminishes respect for America in the world," said Plouffe.

4. It is ALL about context!
You KNOW what a random photo of someone like without a good description makes some people think he is of a different religion or has loyalties elseware.

Normally I'd say it is complete bullshit but recently Clinton has gone from normal to desperate and I see no reason to blindly ignore it.

This is what a desperate campaign does. Hopefully Clinton will realize this has FAILED! And will get out while she still has a chance to salvage her political future.

Fortunately, these tactics just seem so lame and awkward and never seem to go anywhere. I'm not sure whether they'll work in the general or not; it may just be more evidence of the ineptness of the Clinton campaign that they can't seem to pull any of them off. But they ain't working.

Nothing wrong with the photo - Obama should be proud of his heritage. It's the commentary that accompanies the photo; the negative 'fear' crap.

As a Democrat, you should be defending that photo, not making a silly comment about race.

Obama refuses to wear an American flag pin, but he'll have his picture taken in Somali tribal garb?

(OK, that's what the Republicans will say. Get ready for it.)

Hillary is proving once again that she is the mature, vetted candidate who is ready to go on day one. She's the only one who is ready to take on "mad bomber" McCain.

As this stuff continues to dribble out, I wonder what those Republicans have lying in wait for Obama...

33. I certainly hope Clintons camp did attempt to send it out as fearmongering material
Because as we know, Dems and Libs have nothing to fear from Muslims and those that practice Islam.

The party doesn't believe in it. right?

So the Drudge gossip is completely debunked, and the Obama camp looks silly.

44. Do you really think so little of most democratic voters?
I mean I can see the xenophobic repugs being stupid enough to swallow the line that this photo shows that Barack is a muslim. But anybody that stupid is too stupid to be a democrat. So I just don't get the overreaction to an apparently real photo of a man wearing clothes that he actually wore on an occasion when he actually wore them to be gracious and show respect for his hosts.

How possibly could that be a smear? And what should people take away from Obama camp's bizarre overreaction?

39. I really don't get it
I don't see the smear. And I don't see why Obama's people are acting like this is some sort of Willie Horton moment. They must believe that unless they react and react swiftly it will turn into such a moment. But this is obviously a non-issue. What would the issue be? On a good will tour, he went to Kenya and wore traditional Somali clothing? Big F'ing deal. HOw could ANYBODY believe that this was an issue?? I don't get it. And I don't get why they are attacking Clinton on only Drudge's say so. What happens if Drudge is proven wrong, as he often is??

I think the must be shell-shocked by all the incoming fire they've received in the last few days. They've lost total control of the narrative these past few days. Plus they are clearly not going to win Ohio and may not win Texas. And then it's game on again.

It's as if having been pounded by mortar fire, they see a feather floating down and go crazy cause they think there must be a bomb hidden in it.

59. If that's what your man fears
then he should have shown a little more judgment in what he wears when he allows himself to be photographed. But isn't he the guy who wants to appeal to our better angels and who trusts and wants to empower us. If he thinks so well of we the people, why doesn't he think that we can take things for what they are.

Sorry I still don't get the outrage. I really don't. There's hints of both paranoia and now a condescending attitude toward voters being expressed.

because it might tarnish his reputation. That disgusts me to no end. Gavin Newsome, for all his faults is a hero to many in the LGBTQ community. Any photos of BH Obama are FAIR game. If they have not been doctored, they should be used. The Obamanations are afraid of any image with their CULT leader in Islamic garb because it brings forth questions they prefer not be discussed. If Barack had his picture taken in traditional garb why worry about what others will think?

74. It's a smear for the same reason as Hillary's claim that child advocates are former terrorists:
Both are true and known, but Hillary is exploiting the terrorist aspect.

Hillary Clinton woos man who nearly ruined her husband

Earlier this month, Ms Clinton's staff leaked campaign fundraising data to the website just as her rival for the nomination, Barack Obama, was to deliver a policy speech on Iraq - and a crucial 20 minutes before the official release of the information. The story on Ms Clinton's fundraising prowess dominated the news cycle.

Mark Penn is in bed with Drudge.

Obama's campaign would not connect Hillary to the latest attack story without validation.

It has happened before and Axelrod denounced the attempts to link Hillary's campaign to an attack:

The article further reported that Obama strategist David Axelrod said he did not "believe ... for a second" the allegation that Clinton's camp was behind the story.

This latest incident is different in that it comes on the heels of Hillary's campaign and her surrogates promoting Obama's ties to "former members of a radical domestic terrorist group."

Hillary is manipulative and calculating. She is going after anyone ignorant of the facts. Did I say desperate.

84. The "photo" isn't a smear. It's distribution by Clinton campaign for political puproses is.
It is the intent that matters. That photos been out there and has been a non-story when not given any message to it. It took the Clinton campaign to actively contact the media and push the photo with a political message and agenda to turn it into both a smear and a story.

This phrase alone should bother anyone "The Clinton campaign released this photo to major news services." You should be asking the Clinton campaign why they did that and why this isn't a non-story.

You're trying to pretend that if the Obama campaign released photos of Clinton to major media outlets with the request that they run them and those photos showed her in some uncommon garb that many americans would not understand or could misinterpret - you'd be here going, "what's the big deal?"

The big deal is the political motivation - the Clinton campaign didn't release the photo for the joy of Art. The released the photo for NEGATIVE attention, so that it would be MISCONSTRUED by the public and so that it would look bad for Obama.

There's no reason it should look bad for Obama. That they want it to, and that was their reason for pushing it to the media, is the smear and the sick politics.
