CALCULATED: The TWO FACES of Hillary Clinton
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 10:44 AM by Sensitivity
I dawned on me just today that both the Debate fawning "adoration" and the weekend "outrage" are part on a single calculated strategy.

The Clinton team is really smart. Knowing that the best in the business (including Carville/Begalla) are on her team, we should have been clued to this "big play" for Ohio and Texas. This is it folks, they are going all out and nothing is accidental.

Here is the strategy:

1. Plan some major rhetorical and character "bombs" to drop in the last week of the campaign.
2. Quickly positing Hillary as sincere, sympathetic admirer of Obama so as to insulate from bomb-splash.
3. Start dropping bombs!! (e.g. "Shame on you, Barack" (oh, you have betrayed my faith in you); "Karl Rove tactics!!" (and I was just thinking we could all be friends).

BOTH THE FAWINING AND THE OUTRAGE (at stuff she knew long ago) ARE CALCULATED. Just the two FACES of the strategy.

Just watch the bombs drop. Its all part of the plan. Tomorrow should be interesting.

1. Their plan is making her appear unstable.
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 10:44 AM by sparosnare
I've had a few people I know comment on how bizarre her behavior has been over the past week or so; they think she's grasping at straws trying anything and everything. It's difficult to know who the 'real' Hillary is at this point and that's not good for her.

I don't think the Clinton team is really smart. I think they're desperate. Hillary may be able to snag Ohio (but not by much) and she'll lose Texas. It's over for her.

2. Are you saying that Hill is paying a kings ransom for a dumb team? Don't believe it.

6. They certainly do have the experience but they miscalculated.
Everything Hillary and her team has done for the past 7 1/2 years was for this moment; they expected to have a machine and enough money to crush any competition by Super Tuesday. So no, not dumb, but out of touch with Democratic voters.

8. If the Clinton team's so smart, why is she in this predicament.

12. Which says something...
Obama isn't a Jonny-come-lately to me, my sis lives in his former IL district. I have been hearing about his ability to bring together the most diverse elements for YEARS. I'm not surprised at all by his star rising. Sorry, but many of us are tired of cynical triangulation and capitulation to a loud and discordant minority of people who would be happiest in the middle ages. Obama is not as progressive as I would like, but being a leftie, nothing really satisfies to tell the truth. I just see him coming without too much Washington baggage and a gift for listening to all sides. And even old white people who would normally vote for some safe old republican white man are being moved to vote for him. Sounds like a certain pragmatic unity to me.

30. Agree, and won't it be nice . . .
when we are finally rid of all this Rovian maneuvering. Will Hillary ever leave the stage? Someone grab the hook, it's starting to get embarassing.

3. Reminds me of that movie, The Three Faces of Eve...
Senator Clinton goes from vulnerable (breaking down before NH and sucking up with "I'm so, so proud to be here with Barack Obama.") to reprimanding and demanding ("Shame on you, Barack Obama...I'll meet you in Ohio and we can debate your behavior in this campaign.") to the policy wonk professor type that seems most real.

If I were Barack, I'd be dreading the next debate ~ who knows which side will turn up??

(No, this is not sexist, you morality police posters ~ could easily apply to a man who is inconsistent.)

5. I was prepared to believe that Clinton was sincere in what she said at the end of the last debate,
but now I believe it was just a ploy. That's sad, just sad. Yes, her strategy may work to a degree, but I think it will ultimately be a net failure. Apparently there is no limit to what Clinton may do or try in order to win.

21. She has juxtaposed so many moods in such a short period of time that
no matter what she does in the debate it will look put on, fake, disingenuous. All part of an act. I hope Obama can keep a straight face.
