Iseman story passes the sniff test?
I'm just starting to read about the Iseman story.

I see it's not on CNN yet.

this could be just a knee-jerk reaction but it smells a little like a Karl Rove planted story to discredit the NY Times right before the election heats up.

According to the report I read, both McCain and Iseman deny any involvement, so it doesn't seem like there's much juice to the story. Unless there are some photos...

3. So some anonymous sources had their stories independently corraborated
There is a valid reason the story is sourced by those who must not be named. It is the party of Voldemort, after all. Makes perfect sense to me.

4. McCain campaign was source
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/us/politics/21mccain.html?_r=3&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

5. I suspect that you are absolutely correct... Don't be surprised to find Rove behind...
this to give McCain a boost at this point.... In fact they are just mentioning this on CNN... (the fact of giving McCain a boost)

Here come the Republicans at there best... Sorry, but something comes to mind here... Who the hell would want to have an affair with John McCain? Yuck and supper Yuck...

7. Why we suck at political mudslinging. A Case Study.
On the other side, they simply do not give a rats ass about vetting sources, about the truth, about timing, about deep stategerization. They are picking up balls of shit, putting rocks in them, covering them with snow and ice, and throwing them at us as fast as they can. As we are defending against one barrage, they are coming at us from another angle.

Meanwhile, here we have McSame, Mr. Integrity, boffing a lobbyist who has business before his committees, and we are busy analyzing all the ways this could possibly hurt us and bemoaning anyone who wants to shout from the treetops that "McSame is Boffing A Lobbyist: he is a two timing philandering corrupt hypocrite".

Yeah, we better keep our powder dry on this one.
