3. Well that post made me want to vote for Hillary
NOT! congrats it's supporters like you that have succeeded in turning me completely off from the Clintons. I swear, I will NEVER vote for her or any of her family again. That's a promise, and one I will keep.

33. At one time I was undecided
Your candidates unethical actions turned me off to supporting her in the primaries. YOUR actions have turned me so off to her, I will NEVER vote for her, her husband or her daughter. Good work! I am sure Hillary is happy with what you have accomplished.

29. We have to be careful not to equate these types of posts with the candidate.
The motives for such an attack are not clear. I'm not voting for Clinton because of what I see from both her and Obama. I've made my choice on the candidates themselves not because of some nasty people on this board whose motives are unknown.

I'll certainly vote for HRC if it comes down to her or McCain, but as long as I have a choice, I'll support the candidate who I believe most cares about the country, the Democratic Party and all Americans. We are not just a demographic or a blue state to Obama. That's why I support him.

But boy do I agree, these rude people really get my goat and it will be harder to support Clinton if she legitimately wins the nomination. You have to wonder if they don't know that. Again, what is the motivation? Hmmm...let's see...

38. We are judged by the company we keep
If Hillary attracts these types of people and inspires this sort of behavior, what will she do as President? Sorry I fought too long against right wing nut jobs, that used the exact same tactics. I didn't fight that hard and long only to see the tactics adopted by people of my own party. I have to take a moral stand. I have to demand better of my politicians and the people that support them. Otherwise nothing will get better, it will only get worse.

54. Well, I was trying to be subtle when I mentioned motives.
But the bottom line is: these may not really be supporters of Hillary Clinton at all.

There is no doubt that disruption is a tactic of the right and that "divide and conquer" works for them every time. Our side never gets it. We need to take a step back, take a deep breath and believe NOTHING as gospel. When somebody repeats something that only hurts their supposed candidate, I frankly question who their candidate is.

That said, there HAVE been some distressing attacks directly from the Clinton campaign that must be taken at face value.

republicns know they can only win if clinton is the nominee. she will rip us to shreds and give mccain the presidency. its amazing, a few months ago it looked like donald duck could be our nominee and win and now we seem to be throwing it down the toilet. even the congressional generic preference has went from double digits in our favor to 44-40 now. clinton will also kill our congressional gains.

I have always maintained I will work for and support any democratic candidate for president... but today is the first day I actually considered not voting for her. I have donated countless hours to democratic campaigns over the last 15 years.

I have never even considered this possibility before. I am not saying I am going to do it... I would never vote for a republican... but they are getting close to losing my vote in the General Election.

Press Release: Hillary on Beef Recall (2/17)

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=604 ...

2/17/2008
Statement from Hillary Clinton

"The news today of the largest beef recall in our nation’s history is yet another troubling reminder that we have done too little to protect our food supply. This incident also reveals a danger to our children, since the Hallmark company is the second largest supplier to the U.S. School Lunch program. I believe that American families should not have to worry about the safety of the food on their dinner tables or in their children's school lunches. That is why I have long been calling for common-sense - and long-overdue - food safety reforms, building on my work in the Senate. As President, I will fully fund our food safety system so that our inspectors have the resources and manpower they need to do their jobs. I will create a single food safety agency to replace the patchwork of regulation we have now. I will implement an effective recall system so that potentially tainted food immediately comes off grocery store shelves and families receive instant notification. I will strictly enforce safety rules and impose stiff criminal and civil penalties on violators. And I will crack down on the slaughter of sick or injured cows, a practice which poses health risks to families and children. Now more than ever, America needs a President who will deliver concrete reforms that fill the gaps in our food safety system."

Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 01:25 AM by casus belli
Or are you siamese twins with your straw man?

I think the OP picked a poor choice of words, but the fundamental point holds true. We are dealing with a close race that could put either one of these people up as our nominee. To resort to swift boating style ad-hominem attacks which seek to undermine the credibility of the person, we're only weakening either or both of the candidates. That's not to say I don't think the debate process should be spirited, but saying something like "Obama used a sentence from someone else's speech- therefore his entire campaign is null and void because all he has are words" is absolutely dishonest and serves no purpose. Particularly since he was ASKED by the author of the quote to use it as a response to attacks thrown at him.

Let's be clear, I'd be saying the same about Obama if he came out and made such underhanded accusations against Hillary's character - it just shouldn't be a part of a primary of progressive thinkers.
