Are the Wisconsin and Ohio primaries open to independents?
Can independents and republicans vote in the Democratic primaries in Ohio and Wisconsin?

1. Ohio is modified open

You can vote in either, but it automatically registers you in that party. :hi:

5. So independents have to register to a specific party to vote?
On the day of the vote?

Is it only temporary?

9. No, you don't have to register

I mean, you have to register to VOTE, but you don't have to be registered with a party.

Then when you go to your polling place, you just say "I want the Dem ballot." But then that automatically registers you as a Dem, unless/until you change it.

:hi:

10. So it discourages crossover Republican voting?
And is there any inconvinience to an independent declaring to a party on election day? Can they change easily back to being independent after the election?

Sorry for all the questions.

13. If you vote the Dem ballot you become a Dem for the next 2 years

Harder to do GOP crossover voting if you're just trying to rig the vote. If you're sincere about becoming a Dem its ok.

14. No problem!

I guess that it's probably designed to discourage crossover voting... but i'm actually not sure. I think once you are registered, you remain affiliated with that party until the next primary election. :hi:

4. Wisconsin has open primaries
When you register, you don't declare your party.
