Obama rallies state Democrats, throws support behind Lieberman
By Stephanie Reitz, Associated Press Writer | March 31, 2006

Some at Thursday's dinner said that while they were pleased with Lieberman's success in bringing Obama to Connecticut, they still consider Lieberman uncomfortably tolerant of the Bush administration.

Obama wasted little time getting to that point, calling it the "elephant in the room" but praising Lieberman's intellect, character and qualifications.

"The fact of the matter is, I know some in the party have differences with Joe. I'm going to go ahead and say it," Obama told the 1,700-plus party members who gathered in a ballroom at the Connecticut Convention Center for the $175-per-head fundraiser.

"I am absolutely certain Connecticut is going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate so he can continue to serve on our behalf," he said.

------------------------------------------

yet there's this thread:

10/25/06, "Barack Obama sent out an email to his CT list supporting Ned Lamont earlier today"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4543333&mesg_id=4543333

------------------------------------------

So what can one learn from Obama's two stances on the same subject? Is this a pattern that fits well with his "against the war" but then "don't know how I would have voted" and "little difference between me and bush at this point" and "there's room for disagreement" on the original IWR vote? Or his debate pledge to meet with adversarial leaders, without precondition, in his first year, only later to "clarify" his position to match that of Hillary's by saying lower level diplomacy must first occur?

Some might say he's trying to have two opposing positions on hot issues. Some might call him a flip flopper. Some might say he's a transparent pandering politician only interested in scoring political points based upon which way the political winds blow on any given day.

I'll leave it to DUers here to draw their own conclusions.

1. Why couldn't God have blessed Kucinich with great looks, a huge bank account,
And the organizational ability to be the next President

I really wish I lived in an alternate time and space continuum

4. Yeah, I miss DK. He didn't seem to have the impact he did in 04.
I hate to say it, but I think his "Peace Department" helped doom him in 04. And as screwed up as it is, I think the UFO thing did him real harm this time around. And of course, some people couldn't get past his physical stature to actually consider his ideas.

It really sucks that such superficial crap can be a major consideration of his abilities.

18. Ronald Reagans "peace through strength." and UFO sighting didn't hurt him
Ronald Reagan

In foreign policy, Reagan sought to achieve "peace through strength." During his two terms he increased defense spending 35 percent, but sought to improve relations with the Soviet Union. In dramatic meetings with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, he negotiated a treaty that would eliminate intermediate-range nuclear missiles. Reagan declared war against international terrorism, sending American bombers against Libya after evidence came out that Libya was involved in an attack on American soldiers in a West Berlin nightclub

Former President Ronald Reagan's UFO Sighting

Ronald Reagan didn't know it, but he was about to see a UFO. It was 1974, and he was governor of California . He was being flown in a small plane, a Cessna, to a party and just over Bakersfield he and his pilot, Bill Poynter, spotted a UFO. The UFO started out as a glowing white light several hundred yards from the plane, changed shape and became elongated, then began departing. It moved slowly at first; then in a second or so it gained incredible speed and disappeared.

The media did Kucinich in, if the people could have heard him, they wouldn't have thought nothing of his physical stature, look at the people that get their news online...

The final totals were:

Kucinich 31.97% 49364

Al Gore 24.77% 38242

Former Senator John Edwards 15.6% 24078

Senator Barack Obama 13.86% 21403

Senator Hillary Clinton 4.21% 6504

Governor Bill Richardson 4.09% 6309

Other 2.05% 3171

Senator Christopher Dodd 1.56% 2415

Senator Joe Biden 1.12% 1723

Former Senator Mike Gravel 0.77% 1182

6. Clinton supported Lieberman in the primary too. He then endorsed Lamont after the primary
(as did Clinton) and then in the CT primary this year Lamont endorsed Obama.

7. I don't think any of Lieberman's colleagues backed Lamont in the primary.
However, once Democrats had chosen Lamont, only SOME Democrats really backed up Lamont. Obama was one of them. That is why Lamont endorsed Obama.

9. Check your times, and your sources.
"We all watched Ned’s improbable primary victory two months ago. His campaign generated a record turnout that saw 30,000 new Democrats vote to change course at home and abroad."... from your 10/25 source.

1. 3/31: Lieberman in the Race as the Dem. Obama Supports the Dem.
2. Lamont wins the nomination.
3. 10/25: Lamont in the Race as the Dem. Obama Supports the Dem.

Conclusion? Obama supports his own party.

Wow. He's evil and must be stopped? (How does one do the sarcasm thingie?)

12. Isn't that how it went down?
Lieberman was the standing party candidate, was contested, and was removed as the party's candidate, so Barak endorsed the new party's candidate?

I'm not seeing the problem, here.

15. The problem is a progressive, especially one who opposed the war, would not have supported Lieberman

21. Not sure Obama even classifies as that type of progressive.
..if any type at all.

He also continues to vote for military funding, rather than take a hard-line "Still in Iraq? No funds!" approach.

Now if *Kucinich* was endorsing Lieberman, that'd be a tad more shocking.

11. Welcome to DU and Boy are ya gonna need the
Sarcasm thing--.

While you are doing your post, there is a Message options column in the grey matter (not your grey matter - the printed pad on the screen)

It is about three quarters of the way up from where you put the header to your post.

You'll see an HTML lookup table so eventually you can figure out how to use bold and italics.

There is also a "Smilies" list.

Click on it and scroll through it (It takes a moment or two for it to pop up)

Eventually you will see the sarcasm fire.

Click on the actual icon, not the glyphs with the capital letters.

Good luck!

I started keeping a little list of the people who I liked (even Ones who disagreed with me)
and mainly posting only on the OP's they started.

I have gotten lots of help from the guys and ladies in the computer forum, lots of understanding and spiritual twink les over in the spiritual and astrology forum, etc.

Occasionally I found it necessary to PM someone who valiantly stood their ground when underattack. ANd likewise others have thanked me when I wasn't cowardly.

Overall I think I have gotten closer to several more people right now than last year at this time.

You know who your friends are when you really need friends!
