Wow. 10x more voters participated in Maine's dem caucuses than
in the repuke ones there. OK not quite, but close. 4,800 participated in the repuke caucuses compared to over 40,000 in the dem caucuses.

I bet I know someone who had a nervous shiver run down her spine on hearing this news: Senator Susan Collins.

Go Tom Allen, go!

Pukes out there. Funny thing is they seem to be running farther right the worse it gets. Nothing like digging the hole deeper.

3. the numbers are truly startling
Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 10:42 AM by nomorewhopper
and that's why i think that an obama nomination would lead to a landslide of epic proportions over the republicans.

now....maine isn't a red state, so you wouldn't expect to see many repub voters there. AND, it's pretty much a one man race for republicans at this point, so you shouldn't put too mcuh into those numbers

HOWEVER, the dem turnout thusfar has been significantly larger than the republican turnout. significantly! honestly the republicans are just not interested in mccain or romney or whoever else they had (ok maybe some are crazy for huckleberry but i digress)

4. The state has two 'puke Senators that have to be burned out of there
They are both ok on climate protection, but I am sure Democrats would be better.

5. How does that compare to the last election cycle?
Doesnt mean squat that more Dems than pukes turned out,
Maine is not a red state so these numbers are to be expected.
What I'd like to know is how many more Dems turned out this time as opposed to
other years.

Yeah, yeah, I know, do your own research. Ok be back soon........

7. It's way more
17,000 turned out in 2004. And that was a record then. Sure it means something. It means that dems are energized. People stood for hours in the snow to get in to vote. And it may be a blue state but Susan Collins is a repuke. There may be a chance to replace her with an actual progressive.

10. Way more indeed
I agree, it does mean something.
I'm just more interested in how many more dems turned out as opposed
to other years.

If you said more dems in Vermont voted for hillbama than say Fucklenuts, I'd say no duh.
But it you said more than twice as many more as compaired
to 2004, I'd say "wow no shit".

Looks like these pukes dont stand a chance.
Lets hope as many Dems show up for the general!

6. I think the turnout comparisons are worth less now that the GOP nominee is decided
More or less.

Fewer people will vote when the stakes are that low. That said, turnout before McCain sealed it up was also lop-sided Dem

12. Rachel Maddow said that Dem turnout may turn out to be
"the sleeper issue of this campaign."

Remember '06--so many of us turned out it threw off Rove's numbers!

13. Maine Dems turnout double 2004 record
In Lewiston, almost 900 go to caucus

By Andie Hannon , Staff Writer
Monday, February 11, 2008

...Arden Manning, executive director of the Maine Democratic Party, said Sunday's turnout of nearly 45,000 was more than double the 2004 record of 17,000 voters. For him, the strong showing among Maine Democrats - especially young voters - signals a turning of the tide in America's political landscape.
