Vote for the Nominee
This is a repost of something I've been saying... although I'm admittedly a militant hillary supporter, I will vote for Obama if he gets the nomination--regardless of what anyone thinks about that. I think I'm more anti-GOP than I am pro-DNC! After all, I'd go with a socialist party if I could. Sue me. :)

Feb 4, 2008:
It really upsets me that Barack (and Michelle!) Obama could even give the idea of his voters not voting for the nominee a breath. It's a wasted breath on an untrue sentence. I think we as a country learned a lot in the last election (a la Nader, Florida). I've spent a lot of time on Obama's website, and I really can't say I know who this guy is... this is politics, no one's hands are clean. I like knowing about Hillary. He *does* give the most flashy speeches of any politician on TV right now... and you know what? If I hadn't researched the candidates before referring to current TV media opinion, I might have been on the Obama track.

And how funny is it that Pat Buchanan is in love with her in his narrative these days. Talk about bringing republicans in to get things passed (hopefully one day we won't have to)! In spite of being the New York Times' pick, Hillary could get a large anti-McCain vote from the independents and right wing, which has worked out to Obama's advantage in the nomination process. It doesn't look like Obama is their buddy anymore, however. Even the right wing psycho Ann Coltier said she would pick Hillary over McCain... remember she even suggested ending Women's suffrage as a solution to the Democratic movement in the voting booth? I'm fine with the fact that Hillary's record has been considered conservative in many cases: It helps you win the majority of America, and that's the political necessity that preludes the Job itself. I remember in Canada people could be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. That means responsible economy, not tax cuts for the rich... I'm pretty sure this is in the bag for her even though the majority seems to be headed for Obamaland right now. Who knows, but it's tough to change their minds because he apparently took lessons from the pied piper.
Trust me, regardless of what people say, our voices have *not* been heard. Our online bubble is 1/4 the size of his and it is being infiltrated by his energetic, bourgeois, 'ipod following'.

And I wish people would quit acting like you're standing out as a progressive by supporting the Obama herd. We had Kucinich, didn't we? Come on, REMEMBER NADER. We must have DEMOCRATIC SOLIDARITY in November. Kucinich didn't get as far as Obama, but who's more liberal??? Tell me. The great part of presidential elections is that we go with one winner eventually , and although I'm liberal, I want to WIN.

And I love what Obama lacks: Hillary's SUBSTANCE!!

PS:

However, As a sign of good faith and yes, solidarity, I will pledge to vote for Obama if he gets the endorsement on the condition that I can get ONE Obama supporter to pledge to Hillary, and I suggest supporters of ANY democratic candidate do the same.

Any takers? My biggest political regret is voting for Nader and first and foremost I'd hate to see our nominee get beaten again.

02/10/08:
So far, although several people have said they would vote for the nominee, no one has agreed to trade their Obama vote for my Hillary vote.

4. Finally
she apparently had to be taken out of front runner status for that to happen, but i'll take what i can get.

i still think she's going to win. California and New York go a long way in the DNC... at least they should.

5. I think if you had a chance to caucus where I did........
you would have found a lot better attitude among Obama supporters than you have been exposed to here on DU or your area. Is it DU that shapes your opinion of Obama supporters?

8. Well I disagree with caucuses.
I prefer primaries. People can vote all day, in secret. Shy people. Mute people. i think caucuses disenfranchise women as well. That goes for the Caucus in Nevada that she won, as well. Just an opinion, but I'd prefer a popular vote in both parties AND the national election.

14. An overwhelming number of WA State caucus goers agree with you........
Many people were very vocal about how it disenfranchised voters, especially elderly, handicapped and working people, not to mention single parents. I plan to bring it up at the county level convention. The powers that be are of the opinion that it gets people actively involved and create a solid base. I think there has to be a better way. What is totally absurd is we are spending 10 million dollars on a mail in primary this week that counts for nothing.

7. Likewise, here...
Gotta get the White House back....don't care who moves in as long as there's a (D) after their name.

Good luck to your candidate. :toast:

12. Obama is attracting a lot if independent voters.
These are people who don't give a fart in a high wind for 'Democratic solidarity'.

To suggest that independent voters who've been attracted to Obama's candidacy because of his personal qualities would vote for Hillary Clinton is absurd; those voters might not vote at all if Obama isn't nominated. This is a cold hard fact, and it's the reason what Obama said about people who voted for him in primaries not voting for Hillary is the truth, however much you may dislike it. Most people here will vote for the Democratic nominee in November, whoever that is. But someone who isn't a self-identified, partisan Democrat won't.

19. But...
McCain is much more likely to draw independents than Hillary, in a McCain/Clinton contest. It's still early days, but it's unwise to discount polling that shows Obama as the winner and Hillary as the loser in theoretical matchups against McCain as GOP candidate (the difference in the poll numbers is coming from independents, not people who will vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is).
