"In 2004, a total of 17,000 showed up at the caucuses (Maine)
According to Manning, 89 percent of the caucuses across the state had reported their numbers by Sunday night, with 38,975 voters filling caucuses. At that point, Obama had approximately 600 more votes than Hillary Clinton statewide.

"In 2004, a total of 17,000 showed up at the caucuses," Manning said.

The same phenomenon occurred in Camden, where 560 voters squeezed into the Camden Opera House. In Rockport, the town office proved too small for the turnout, so the Democrats moved to the Strom Auditorium at Camden Hills Regional High School.

There, the mood was just as ebullient for Obama as it was in Camden.

In Rockland, the City Council Chambers were jam-packed with close to 300 people, and the caucus was under way with plenty of discussion.

3. The more I read about caucuses the more my mind is blown.

I can't even begin to fanthom how many people 17k represent of their democratic vote. This year they have had a turnout of about 40-50k, a lot better, but still half of a closed primary this year

8. Figure is even higher
I just talked to my field director a little while ago- once they get all of Portland counted, the total is expected to be 40,600.
