My solution: one candidate agrees to 1 Term and the other candidate drops out.
This to me avoids a deadlock convention and since McCain has said the same,
the next election in 2012 will be wide open.

1. I don't think we would want them to do this because they may be
doing a kick ass job and we might not want them to go.

3. And if we win now, but stay only 1 term, the GOP has another shot in 2012

4. how's this solution-
we continue to let people vote, and leave the hand-wringing for *if* this ends up being too close to call

5. That is an idiotic idea. No one gives up power. The 2nd term is the "Fuck You" term anyway.
The pandering to get reelected happens in Term One. In Term Two, you get the full measure of the candidate's 'vision' and 'legacy' because they aren't running for another term.

6. Yeah, okay. Should the nominee pinky-swear
to not run as a heavily favored candidate for re-election?

8. Where did McCain "say the same"? I've heard him say that he will not commit to only one term (nt)
