1. Total unity only
serves a dictatorship well.

2. So, when our party united around Kerry in 04...
...and crowned him the victor even before South Carolina...was that marching in
"lockstep"?

I'm so tired of good things happening---things that have happened hundreds of times
before in our party--and people positioning those things as sinister.

3. I think so. I think Dean got a raw deal.

5. I agree...
...and no one supported Dean more than I did. I caucused for him, when I was
the only one in the room doing so. My vote didn't count that year because I
refused to move for anyone else.

However, this process is ALL ABOUT winnowing down our choices into one candidate
who best represents our party and the majority of Dems.

It all comes down to all of us being "in lockstep" doesn't it? I mean, that's
kind of a negative way of saying that we are galvanized or totally behind our
candidate.

I know it's hard for supporters of the losing candidate to deal with this
disappointment. Believe me, I've had my share of disappointments in
politics. I wanted Gore so bad, I cried when I realized he wasn't jumping
in. I liked Kucinich, and I said I was a staunch Dean supporter before.

However, when it came time to get behind one candidate, I didn't try to
position our party unity as some God-awful mutation from political hell.

This contest has become so emotional and draining, and I sometimes get
tired of seeing people turn something positive into something totally
sinister or suspect.

4. Lock step is still (and always) bad.
It's what differentiates us from the other side and, not coincidentally, the lower animals.

We show empathy to, and at least attempt to understand, those who do not acquiesce to the collective mind.

Haven't been seeing much of this lately on DU, but overall it's still true. JMO

6. Why the confusion? It's not that complicated...
It's a united front when we all fall in line with MY candidate.
It's lock-stepping/goose-stepping when you don't support MY candidate.

Hope this clears things up. :)

PS The same holds when determining if someone belongs to a cult. Or chooses which football team to cheer for.
