What If Both Parties Spit Into Two This Year?
I've sometimes thought our nation's gov't might benefit from a healthier three party situation, but it's not something that has seemed likely to seriously develop in my estimate. Recently though, hearing all the higher than usual intra-party fighting on both sides has made me think that there could be a possibility of each party splitting in two.

Due to my job as a pizza delivery driver, I spend a fair amount of time checking in on the right-wing talk radio and a sizable chunk of their party is very unhappy with their presumptive nominee. I know what you're going to say but I there's only so much Clear Channel one can take and my local NPR likes playing freaky world music 20 hours out of the day. Besides there's something to be said for knowing your enemy and for honing one's progressive views via screaming at the ditto-heads coming from one's car speakers. Mmm... catharsis.

Anyway back to my question. If it appears that a serious conservative were running outside the Republican party's nominee, could you see there being a fair amount of support on the left for our party's losing nominee to also make an outside party bid?

If the vitriol here on DU is any indication, I'd say perhaps there is.

3. There would have to be power sharing
I'm not sure the system would change all that much. We're already two coalitions.

9. I've dreamed about it.
Either that or hijacked the party and pushing it to the left the way the fundies did over the past 3 decades. Go to committee meetings, make everyone exasperated until they quit.

10. Okay. How about Clinton vs McCain vs Obama vs Huckabee?
I realize it's ridiculous but it's more fun to think about this than it is reading most of the GD:P threads here lately.

How do you think those numbers would pan out?

Or to take it a step further...

Clinton/Richardson vs. McCain/Bush(Jeb) vs. Obama/Edwards vs. Huckabee/Colbert?

And reaching even further into absurdity (psychobilly freakouts on the floors of both conventions)...

Gore/Obama vs. McCain/Romney vs. Clinton/Edwards vs. Paul/Napolitano?

Finally my dream/nightmare four party match-up (again psychobilly freakouts on the floors of both conventions)...

Jesus/Dean vs. Xemu/McCain vs. Muhammad/Obama vs. Vader/Romney?

Whoa. I need to stop.
