Ok, so if cult is offensive what about
when people describe Obama as "messianic"? Or what about when they talk about Obama as using "religious fervor" like words in his speeches. Or when a supporter is called "fanatical" in their support.

I mean, how far should this go in terms of words being banned when talking about Obama?

2. Easy, just don't say anything bad, and don't ask people to objectivly post about flaws...
I will admit the flaws post did acutally turn out o.k.

But in the beginning it was crazy because it was as if they didn't want to see that there could be anything that he could do wrong.

I don't get it though. Why on DU are we willing to be just as hard on our own candidates like Pelosi and Reid but we can't do it where Obama is concerned.

5. Obama shouldn't be untouchable
I don't get it either, it is ok to say Hillary is a cold bitch and other sexist terms, but - hands off! - when talking about Obama!

3. How 'bout everyone just exercise a little common sense...
in regards to what they find offensive and, conversely, in posting what they know will be found offensive?

4. I think it's fine to say anything you want about him
The cult thing is an insult to millions of Americans and should not be allowed to be perceived as coming from our possible GE candidate.

10. So what? How does that hurt or threaten you?
I know a lot of ordinary Americans who dig the guy. If they and the millions like them think that Hillary thinks they are stupid or brainwashed or lost in some kind of romantic fantasy, we will be screwed in November if she is nominated. She is already perceived as scornful.

In other words, is your distaste at your acquaintances' belief or behavior really worth spreading this shit?

Although cults don't have to follow it themselves.

11. I love how people think DU is governed by the Constitution,
it always amuses me. But the poster is the only person talking about "banning" speech. I haven't seen anything from the Admins suggesting that "cult" is going to be banned.

I'm merely pointing out how stupid and pointless and damaging to our ultimate chance at the White House this petty bullshit is. People can say what they want, I don't even possess the means to stop them, much less the inclination.

12. That was about DU alone? You didn't say.
The Admin can do anything they want to. I'm happy they have provided this forum. It was totally free for a long time and they ran it out-of-pocket.

14. Well, it would be a good idea if the real-world Clinton campaign
didn't touch this meme with a ten foot pole.

That's not policing speech, it's a strategic recommendation.

I will join you in a toast to the Admins!

15. They are all nasty words in my view. Obama is in an election campaign.
He should have a following. I would vote for Hillary if I could (I'm Canadian) but don't like besmirching the other side. Obama gives great speeches and his policies are pretty close. No reason to use cult or cultlike words to attack him. No reason to paint him as somehow sinister. He isn't.
