LINCOLN - Chelsea Clinton walked into a pep rally Thursday at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and quickly turned it into a policy forum.


She quieted hundreds of cheering students holding campaign signs and launched into a question-and-answer session about her mother's positions on health care policy, the housing crisis and U.S. relations with the Middle East.

She delivered no campaign slogans. She took no obvious jabs at Sen. Barack Obama. She rarely raised her voice, either at UNL or later when she stopped at a Lincoln coffee shop.

Students on hand to get a glimpse of the former first daughter saw a self-assured 27-year-old who grasps the nuances of the Darfur genocide and is committed to helping her mother, Hillary Clinton, get elected.

"She does what she says she will do," Chelsea Clinton said when asked why young voters should trust her mother.

"I'm biased . . . but there's nobody who I like more and trust more in the entire world."

1. Chelsea should have been out there from the beginning

Her parents have been protecting her from the beginning of this campaign, like she was still the young daughter they had years ago, when they entered the White House.

As parents, you would think they should know, she's the best thing in their life.

She herself should probably be in charge of the campaign.

If and when young people thirty and under vote in this country, it will change our history.
