Teresa Heinz Kerry Makes Mark on Campaign (Darn good article)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040...

BOSTON - Teresa Heinz was terrified at the suggestion her husband should run for president. "Over my dead body," she would say.

She preferred to be a mother. She wanted to live and work in relative quiet. She wanted some semblance of privacy, as much as she could muster as the wife of a popular U.S. senator.

Fate intervened.

Her husband, Republican Sen. John Heinz of Pennsylvania, was killed in a plane crash in 1991, cutting short a rising political career and leaving his wife, the mother of their three sons, a widow and heiress to the $500 million family ketchup fortune.

More than a decade later, Teresa Heinz Kerry is again the wife of a senator who would be president.

2. When the pubs are through with Teressa, the neo-cons will think Hillary is
a saint compared to her.

4. But.. she WAS a Republican
Until 2 years ago. I hope she just lets them smear her to no end and then round about August, reminds them of that little fact. She's what a real Republican USED to be.

3. Mrs. Kerry's attitude is VERY refrehsing
She seems very free-spirited and spiritual. This country could definitely use a First Lady like her.

10. She's rich, so what?
She's disqualified from being "spiritual" (whatever that's supposed to mean) because of the wealth she inherited? Can no-one with worldly possessions be spiritual?

11. Being Spiritual Requires One To Be Dirt Poor
and down trodden dontcha know.

It's not how much money you have... it's what you do with your money and your attitude towards your wealth that matters.

14. yup, nixon and reagan
nixon and reagan growing up poor sure made them spiritual.

i agree, it's what you do that matters. i think fdr and jfk were far greater presidents and persons than nixon and reagan were. reagan was a cold bastard and racist. clinton grew up poor but he grew up to be a man who understood others and was great on race relations.

7. I thought these two passages were very revealing and endearing...
What Teresa said really made me feel very good about them both..imagining them as President and First Lady gives me hope for our country's future.

"We're too old to know right away," she laughed. "I knew right away that it was fun to talk to him because he got my sense of humor. I can be myself with him and that's great. That's the highest compliment you can give anybody."

But Kerry's eyes and his smile eventually captured her heart, she said. She married the man she calls "magical" with children in a 1995 ceremony witnessed by her three sons and his two daughters from a marriage that had ended in divorce years earlier.

8. I really really like this woman!
She pulls no punches, says what she thinks, and has well-thought-out opinions. What she said about gay marriage was priceless. (I don't have a link but basically she said she looks at it as a mother - if she had a child who was gay and wanted to marry she'd be thrilled for him/her, just as for a straight child. Made such perfect sense to me.)

15. Wait. Hillary was a teenager.
Hope Teresa does great but being an R when you are 58 is different than being one when you are 18, when so many people just follow their parents.
