What Does Clinton Say To McCain
when he asks her if she's for the withdrawal of troops then why did she back the IWR? Why does she continue to fund it?

1. My concern: The line will be "You were all for it when it was easy and popular, and
then when the going got hard, you turned your back on it"--or words to that effect. He can't hit Obama on it, because Obama stood on principle and was ALWAYS against it from the git-go.

3. Yup - and you have to support troops in the field
Obama present the stickier argument regarding the occupation.

But, imo, McCain is sunk by his musical number - Bomb Iran. I'm chomping at the bit for that ad. It could have the same effect as Johnson's Daisy-Girl ad against Goldwater.

2. I didn't know the IWR & funding was directly linked to withdrawl
I don't understand this - are all wars supposed to last indefinitely?

6. Only in McCain's mind.
Well, and the minds of others who want a forever war (Cheney, et al.)... Needless to say, Americans aren't really enthusiastic about being in a state of continual war.

Good point!

4. Obama better figure out an answer when he gets asked why he continues to vote yes to fund it after
claiming so often how he's the only true anti-war candidate from start to finish. Just a little hypocritical perhaps?

8. Defunding is extreme, and is a last resort. That's just the plain fact of it--
most Americans, from polls that I recall, do NOT support defunding out of fear that troops will end up being endangered. Vietnam was defunded after our presence was already winding down, and yet Dems STILL took grief for that. It's still a third rail--touch it and die. Obama and Hillary both voted against funding for the first time, finally, just this year, and it makes me worry they'll both get hit with the "you want the troops not to have canteens and rifles" argument. My own Senator, Hagel, has said it would be disastrous to defund, even though he pretty much gave up his political career to vote with the Dems on timetables to end the war.
