There were a lot of us *ahem* rather astute political observers in here who saw that it would have major legs the second it was reported on CNN.

A large group here, however, claimed it was just a "DU story," that no one would cover it, it was a non event that no one would notice. And they were very vocal in their views.

Putting aside whether it is having any impact, which is debatable, putting aside what it says about the state of our culture and of our media, putting aside what it says about what we value in our political process... it has been a huge story with major, major legs.

Evidently some in here are much better students of popular American political culture than others.

Ok, I am gloating. So sue me. :)

4. Legs, indeed!

Gloat away! I'm just struck by the way Obama can take a great day for himself (the Day of Kennedies) and turn it into a net loss (the Snub.) Guess that's just what comes from inexperience.

5. Stop. NOW. God punishes gloaters.
Have we not seen that here? Time and again? Primary after primary? Poll after poll?

In the immortal words of Yeats: Be secret and exult, Because of all things know That is most difficult. ...

8. No, I knew it and admitted so. Elections sometimes turn on these
"perception into character" moments. While I don't believe it was an intentional snub myself the meme has repeated enough to create the myth that it was one. Score one, not exactly for Clinton except by default, but against Obama for sure.

9. Amazing how that contradicts the Clinton campaigns ludicrous assertion
that the media favors Obama and is out to get Clinton. You really need to get your stories straight.

10. No contradiction at all
The DC/NY media generally loathe the Clintons. They loathed them during the 90's. The Clintons didn't court the media and they were insanely bright and very ambitious and, eventually, powerful. Much of the press exacted its revenge then and continues to take its pound of flesh during this campaign.

But the media also can't resist those little moments that give us brief character cues about famous politicians, especially ones running for President. Obama's given us a couple of them, which play into a narrative that behind his sunny demeanor there is something of a mean, arrogant streak. The "snub" gave the media a chance to pounce on that and hype it and overanalyze it.

The Clinton hatred and the press' inability to resist such a juicy character story, played out live at the SOTU no less, are not contradictory in the least.

11. It wouldn't have had legs had Obama supporters kept denying it was a snub.
They were trying very hard to get DUers to stop talking about it. But then they kept talking about it. That was hilarious!
