"She found the best person for her, I found the best person for me"
so said Maya Angelou just now on MSNBC, referring to Oprah endorsing Obama and her endorsing Clinton.

If only more people could look at it this way. If someone supports someone other than your candidate, it doesn't make them wrong. We all have our own hopes and experiences and concerns and dreams. Each of us sees the world through the lens of our own lives.

If you don't support my candidate, it doesn't mean I'm wrong. It doesn't mean I'm stupid, ignorant, narrow-minded or a poopie-head.

It just means I found the right person for me.

1. She also said something at the end that really threw the interviewer...

Something like, "Hillary's a woman, not just some old female."

What was that about??

On second thought, maybe she meant "some old lady" ~ although still a little odd, that would make more sense.

9. Maya is quoting from a poem she wrote about Hillary.
It was published in the Guardian Unlimited a week or so ago. You can google it.

2. And now there are some of us who have no candidate and it would be great if we were not pressured to
have one. I apreciate that others have choices but some of us don't.it doesn't make us bad people either.

3. You read my post
as pressuring people to pick a candidate?

5. Not at all. I was just saying that having no candidate is another choice.
and should be respected as well.

6. I am sorry for your loss of Edwards, but this poster wasn't
trying to pressure anyone. I will say it again, people should let Edward's people go where their heart leads them. Everyone should give them some breathing room. I wish you well in making your own choice even if it is Obama. I sincerely mean this.

8. Monkey Funk wasn't pressuring me! I was just expanding on choices.

4. I wish some of
the posters on DU were
as half as smart as Maya
Angelou. I am talking about
her acceptance of other peoples'
choice and not trying to change
their minds while berating them.

12. That's it exactly.
Hillary works for me and my issues. She may not work for others. You spend your vote the way you want and I'll spend mine the way I want. Fair enough?

15. I am glad that both Oprah and Maya did not stay on the sidelines

One of the great benefits of this campaign is that people are having to stop and actually listen to the voices of strong African American women.
