Poll question: For those of you who won't vote for Clinton or Obama in the GE...
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 12:11 PM by Flabbergasted
Will you vote for Clinton/Obama? It's looking like a good possibility.

I'm specifically asking about those who will only vote for one and not the other.

I still have the slightest hope that the Democrats
will avoid this yawning bamboo-staked pitfall.

> Damn lucky, DINO.

That's right! In my heart of hearts, I'm an unabashed
Socialist.

I've only voted with the Democratic Party (for the
last thirty years or so) out of convenience. But if
the Democrats keep running Republican-Lite candidates
or wimps who are *GUARANTEED* to lose to real Republicans,
then that marriage of convenience no longer works for me.

27. I for one, understand the consequences of another 4 years of R rule.
I am slightly to the right of Karl Marx, but I Know realistically, that it's the D or the R. UNFORTUNATELY, I must chose the latter, despite the fact that I think both frontrunner's are corporate whores.

31. Yep
Up here, just a bit North of you, there are 4 parties in parliament - very likely 5 after the next election. With that many parties we seem to be locked into a cycle of minority parliaments. The majority though, in polling, say they like minority parliaments because no single party (including the one in power) can do anything without the support of at least one other party.

However, we do not have that system. This is NOT a Democracy. It is a Constitutional republic.

36. Actually, our Congress could easily have more than two parties.
Only our Presidential Election is rigged to favor the
two current incumbent parties.

38. Well, have you forgotten Senators Lieberman and Sanders?
And Representative Paul?

As more and more people start to see that the two
incumbent parties are (please forgive the theft from
another DUer) just the "Good Cop and the Bad Cop",
they may finally start to realize that true alternatives
exist.

39. The other thing
Is that the Presidential system is skewed toward the two current parties in part BECAUSE there is no significant 3rd party representation in Congress (or even in the State Legislatures) and Congress and the Legislatures are the ones that make the election rules.

28. Exactly
The Democratic Party is about DEMOCRACY, about each voter doing what he/she thinks is the best thing for themselves and their country - if you won't fall into line and do exactly as your told, regardless of how you feel about it, you can't really call yourself a DEMOCRAT now can you? :sarcasm:

32. If our options were REALISTICALLY beyond one of the 2 parties, I would agree with you,
however the stakes are too high, our real options so limited that once again we must vote for the lesser of two shit piles. And by the way Mr Canadian, this is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy.

35. Yeah, I know that
I was born in the states and left, won awards in school for constitutional studies. You might also be interested to know though that the "Democratic" party takes it's name from the word "Democracy" - also, imo and part of the reason I left, is that the Democratic party isn't better, not really, not very much anyway - it's all a game of good cop bad cop: The Democrats didn't just lose the white house, the utterly failed to prevent the damage done by Bush - even with control of Congress.

I still, by the way, get to vote. I'll take a second look at Obama now that Edwards is out, that doesn't mean I'll vote for him but I'll have another look. I won't vote for Hillary.

If the choices are Republican or Republican - why bother?

22. Unlikely
I don't think either will choose the other as running mate. They don't like each other at all, and while the country may be ready for one or the other; both on the same ticket may induce the worst of both worlds to vote rethuglican.

Secondly, I think the candidate who isn't the nominee, would turn it down, and hope for the other to fail in the general election and try again in four years. Especially if McCain is elected, because he is old, poor health and probably wouldn't be able to do a second term.

Anybody but a Repugnant.

I voted for Hillary because there were many things about Obama I just couldn't stomach. But IF Obama gets the nomination, I will not only hold my nose to vote for him but I will take ant-nausea pills to campaign for him vigorously!

For those here who are vaguely seduced by the idea of voting for McCain, keep in mind that, due to his health, it is more likely that his running mate will end up being President.

We need ANY Democrat in the WH this election.
