Hey are we still flipping our lids over a handshake?
Oh, we are?

That's too bad.

Because this is the single, absolutely most irrelevant "issue" I've ever heard of in any political campaign in my entire life.

And it's your fault for propogating it, GDP. It's every bit as much your fault as it is the media's.

You see, there's still a terrible war going on. Have we seriously concluded that the only way to decide who best to end it sometime within the next 9 god damn years is by assessing whose manners are most refined?

If WE, the really committed Dems, are this easily distracted from what actually matters, god fucking help us all.

4. I doubt that the "media" is wired into DU GDP for cues as to what to cover.
It's a story. And it is a story because the Press Gallery saw an ungracious candidate behaving, as one of them said "childishly."

And the best way to "tamp this shit down" is not to start new threads on the subject. Go pee on an old thread, instead...

You have a lotta moxie saying It's every bit as much your fault as it is the media's. because you're part of that mix.

There's this thing where you can hide threads that bother you. You might want to use it...

8. I didn't say that the media took its cues from us.
I said we were spending too much time on the exact same irrelevancy. Yet we hold ourselves in such high regard compared to the media.

And you could hide this thread, too. See how that works? Maybe it takes moxie, though...

10. But you are "catapulting the propaganda" now, aren't you?
Why not make your point in an existing thread, rather than a new one? You're the one who claims to not WANT us to talk about this--not me. Yet here you are, lecturing us on what YOU think is important! In a new thread!

I don't want to hide this thread, or any of the threads. I think this shit is a laugh-riot, especially the efforts of those who want to try to minimize the story because it makes their candidate look childish and meanspirited, and they don't like that.

This shit doesn't BOTHER me, see? I'm somewhat amused, though at people like you who are desperately trying to tell people what they should pay attention to, what is relevant and what isn't.

The flopsweat spin is kind of funny too--Oh, he was only scowling and turning his back because he wanted to make room for Teddy to talk to the Senator!!!

Probably the funniest one of all!

I think this matter is TERRIBLY relevant. Clearly it must be, since so many people want it to go away, NOW.

I think it's great that people saw what they saw, and take away an opinion from it. I find the whole discussion of the event rather refreshing, and I am so pleased that MSNBC and the other news outlets are also talking about it! I hope they talk about it all week!

11. Well, you've betrayed where your loyalties lie, if nothing else.
Pathetic. The economy is on the verge of collapse, the war seems like it's never going to end, but you WANT the media and DU to talk about a handshake "all week" because it makes the candidate you disfavor possibly look bad? This is really what you want? You're EXACTLY what I was expressing my contempt for in my OP (that's right, my OP, deal with it). No wonder you're smearing your shit all over the thread. You Clinton people and the Obama Mamas fucking deserve each other.

We HAVE to talk about it NOW!!!!!! We can't spend a day noting a rude candidate!!!! And if we participate on ONE thread, that means we can't chime in on ANY others, because asthmaticeog SEZ so!!! No walking and chewing gum at the same time!

OOOOH...the WAR!!!! If we get on that TODAY, we'll have it wrapped up by TOMORROW!!!

And anyone who disagrees with YOU, you have "contempt" for, eh? Why am I not surprised?

 You don't want a discussion board, you want a "My Way or the Highway" board!!!
Too bad, there, Sunshine--it doesn't work that way!

The term is hubris-laden, and you're that and then some! Funny how you can so cavalierly accuse others of "smearing shit" when you're the one who lit this baby off! That 'pathetic' word you shop around sure does apply..."wet hen"--as in, Mad As A--applies too!

FWIW, I am NOT one of those "Clinton people." Way to ASSume, though!! You don't even get that right!

16. Wow, you're way off base.
I don't have contempt for "anyone who disagrees with (me)." Not at all. I don't know where you got that from. But hardly any campaigns in my life have ever been decided on real issues. My contempt is for the people who've lowered that bar. Like the hysterics all over GDP who've made this total triviality out to be the burning issue of our time.

Sorry I assumed you were a Clinton supporter, though. You were being incredibly foolish, so I had to guess whether you supported Clinton or Obama. Clearly I guessed wrong.

21. Yes you do. I disagree with you, so you drag out that "contempt" word like it will hurt me.
It doesn't. You can play the Obama card and snub me all you'd like.

You don't HAVE to talk about this issue, you know. You don't even have to talk about the primaries, if they bother you.

You lit this fire, and now you are complaining about the heat. If you want to talk about the issues, YOU CAN. No one is STOPPING YOU, except YOU--when you post asinine threads like this and then get pissed when someone who isn't singing "YEAH, you genius, you are just SO right, and OH, you are so SMART and I agree with YOU!!!"

It's almost as though you think DU is "critical mass" and will decide this election--I got news for ya, that ain't the case. This is a small subset of a small subset of a small subset of the voting public. This place certainly does a shitty job picking winners-even for the Democratic nomination. It's fun, it's engaging, this forum, but it isn't DEFINITIVE.

I wasn't being "incredibly foolish" either. See, you can't have a discussion without either telling people they're foolish or you have contempt for them. What's next? You don't like my shoes, or the car I drive? How else will you cut me with that great big knife of yours??

:eyes:

22. You know what? Go troll for a fight with someone else.
You're not discussing anything, you're merely drawing all kinds of unjustified conclusions about me as a person. I can have perfectly civil discussions with people I disagree with, but when you're just going to extrapolate my alleged character traits from your apparently cavernous behind, I lose all interest in trying to engage you on any level. If you had anything intelligent to say, we'd be having a discussion right now, but you jumped straight in with ad hominems. That, MADem, is in fact "incredibly foolish."

23. Ah, so now I'm a "troll" because I am not on your cheerleading squad?
Nice, real nice!

You aren't discussing anything either. You presented a thesis in your OP, and I disagreed with it, and that's not sitting well with you.

So now, you respond by accusing me of "drawing unjustified conclusions" (ahhh, unjustified because they don't AGREE with yours) and having a "cavernous behind." That's REAL adorable there, that kind of talk! Then, because you don't LIKE what I have to say, you attempt to deride it as not "intelligent!"

You're something, that's for sure. I think we're safe in assuming you haven't won any awards for Logical Discourse lately. One thing is incredibly clear--you hurl invective when you don't get what you want! Temper, temper, now!!

Here, just for YOU, to puff you up and make you feel good about your thread:

Rah, rah, Siss-Boom-Bah! YEAH, team!!!!

7. Since their platforms are very similar, image marketing and "character" issues rule the day
Where there -are- distinctions to be drawn, the media seem too bored with them to care. Yet as soon as something supposedly insightful comes up with regard to "character" or image, the media are all over it. Issue framing (not actual stances on the issues) is another area where the media spend a lot of focus, and again the effort is to pyschoanalyze the framing to make some subjective claim as to candidate "character." It sucks, it killed us in 2000/2004, and I wish DU didn't closely ape that focus on triviality.

17. Yeah, that pissed me off, too.
Politicians do photo ops with zillions of people - admirers, donors, and people who just happen to be around are lined up, marched through and photographed while the politicians endure it with prom-photo rictus grins. That's reality. I saw nothing in that pic to make me beleive the Clintons had any idea who the hell that guy even was, but it was a shitstorm, because people don't want to talk about issues, they just want to find tortuous ways to rationalize all their flaming personality cult bullshit.
