Clinton brings campaign to Florida
By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer
13 minutes ago http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080128/ap_on_el_pr/clinton

Like her rivals, Clinton has agreed to a pledge imposed by national party leaders not to publicly campaign in the state. But after South Carolina, Clinton was skating up against the edge of that agreement and trying to lend some credibility to the outcome Tuesday.

"Hundreds of thousands of people have already voted in Florida and I want them to know I will be there to be part of what they have tried to do to make sure their voices are heard," Clinton said. She will campaign in the state on Tuesday, but only after the polls have closed.

"I will try to persuade my delegates to seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida," said Clinton. "Democrats have to win Michigan and have to try to win Florida and I intend to do that. The people of Florida deserve to be represented in the process of picking a candidate for president of the United States."

Campaign aides defended Clinton's new focus on Florida.
"I think it's a mistake for any party, for any candidate to tell the voters in Florida they don't matter," said spokesman Jay Carson. "It's wrong for any Democrat to send a message that the voters of any state don't matter."

1. In a Word: Pathetic
Trying to get the delegates counted in these states is so low-class. I can't believe that they don't realize these efforts will make them seem willing to do or say anything to win. But I guess Machiavelli had something going for him.

He says in Sept 2007 that he will seat Florida, only if he's the nominee and says if he's not, he wont if its brokered convention, and then talks to journalist like he's not supposed to, he broke the pledge last Sept actually.

4. It may or may not be right, but it's certainly out in the open.
Sneaky require some aspect of stealth, doesn't it?

5. Trying to Retroactively Count Michigan Should Count For Something
Campaigning and (barely) winning as the only candidate and THEN trying to make it count? There was names for kids like that on the playground.

6. When winning means everything the ends are seen to justify everything.
At the same time, it seems that the ban on seating delegates from MI and FL is unlikely to stand up to even a minimal amount of fight because alienating voters from the party is really not the goal of the primary process.

All it takes is one solid sucker punch for a candidate to look like Ivanhoe riding to the rescue. Helping yourself and looking like a hero is just so tempting that it was almost a certainty someone was going to do it.

7. It's a bad move IMO
She was going to win Fl anyway, and a stunt like this only opens her up to criticism and charges of political manipulation.
