Lifelong die-hard wonderful Democrats that they are, my dad is ALL over Bill Clinton, happy about the backlash Bill got this week and giving me the old rundown on how Bill got elected President and then screwed us with the NAFTA stuff, causing all kinds of jobs to be lost and this and that.

Then it's my mom's turn. Let's just say she has never been a big fan of the Clintons either, but it's hilarious to hear her talking about Hillary. "That woman has COLD eyes! I don't like that woman and I don't know if I can vote for her!". Then I start giving it to her how she's gonna help elect a Republican if Hillary gets the nod and if she doesn't vote, so she relents a little bit and says, "OK, I'll probably vote for her if she gets in, but I still don't like that woman." Then she starts in on how Bill is ruining it for Hillary, and she starts feeling a little sorry for Hillary because of how Bill is acting.

For the record, my dad has been a huge Kucinich fan for as long as I can remember. My mom wants Obama because in her words, "I would love to see a black man win. I think it would do a world of good for a lot of people in this country if a black man becomes President." But then she adds, "I think Hillary is very competent even though I don't like her, so she'll probably get it. The one I think says the best things, though, is Edwards. I feel sorry for that poor man that he isn't doing better."

LOL, here I try to get away from DU for the evening, and I run right smack into a bee's nest of it on the phone.

1. Most of my family is starting to sour on the Clintons too.
Some of them are even claiming that if the Clintons are nominated, they won't vote for them. Pretty scary considering my family is full of progressive activists.

6. Wow does that sound familiar, skipos
That's what my mom does, too. She acts like she's not going to vote for Hillary if she gets the nod, but I know she's just bluffing, and she even admits that she'll probably vote for "that woman" if she has to. lol

3. You want bad?
I have brothers that post on DU --and I'm the only family member that is supporting Hillary.

Just got off the phone with my mom (who is classic Hillary demographic) and she just went off on me for supporting Hillary :)

4. That is too funny, maddie. I just love pulling my mom's chain about Hillary
Last month my wife and I drove down for a visit and I sprung the Goddess of Peace thing on my mom. You should've heard the fireworks. It was great.

Oh, and give you brothers hell for me!

5. My family loves the Clintons although they disagree
with some things he had done, i.e. NAFTA and stumping a little too aggressively in this campaign. Well, that's how they see it anyhow. Come to think of it, I see it that same way too.

7. My mother volunteered for Adlai Stevenson when she was 16
and she's just the same. Old school Democrat.
She's an Edwards supporter but if he wasn't in the race she'd probably vote for Nader again like she did in 2004 and 2000 (even if he's not on the ballot if she could).

12. My parents were fans of his, too. My mom also reminisces about Gore Vidal and
she loves to talk about the time she and some other ladies had Gore Vidal over to our house when Vidal was running for office. My mom always worked on the local Democratic committee. She said she even invited some Republican women over to meet Vidal that day and how they all fell in love with him.

13. He's a delight -- "Today's public figures can no longer write their own speeches or books, and there
is some evidence that they can't read them either."

"What other culture could have produced Hemingway, and not seen the joke?"

10. You are so lucky
Wish mine were alive and as savvy as your folks are.

If they don't have a computer, get'em one. We can sure use them at DU.

Your Mom is right about Hillary's eyes and your Dad is cool on NAFTA too.

14. Thanks, and it's funny you say that about the computer and DU
Oh, for sure my sisters and I made sure my parents have had a computer. My mom is pretty decent on the computer. My dad's fingers are too far gone with arthritis to type well. After I first started on DU, I showed them DU on their computer when I went down for a visit. I did not tell them my DU handle, lol. Anyway, I picked a good thread and asked my dad to read it. He read it, and he looked up at me afterward and he said real enthusiastically, "That's excellent. It's a good thing they have that place." I tried to get both my parents interested in posting, but they wouldn't go for it at the time. If I lived closer to them, I think I could talk my mom into it for sure.

It's too fun listening to them. My father really keeps up on it, and he's always for the most progressive Democratic candidate. My mom is incredibly opinionated and it is so fun getting her all wound up about Hillary. People on DU would love her.

Sorry your folks aren't around anymore.

Thanks for posting :)

I really appreciate that. Yeah, you would love them in person, too. My dad is so knowledgeable and my mom is the most kind hearted person in the world. Course I'm partial :)

There are lots of nice people here on this forum and you are certainly one of them.

If she ever signed up on DU, I don't think she'd make it a week before getting banned, and she's a die hard Democrat, too. lol
