Did Obama successfully quit smoking?

I smoked for more than 50 years, and last January 11, 2007, I quit. It was getting too hard to find a place to smoke. Towards the last few years I had a machine that made 100 mm filtered cigarettes which I swear made the house not smell as bad as it did from commercial cigarettes. Every checkup I had the doctor said my lungs were clear and was I sure I smoked 1-1/2-2 packs a day.

Anyway, in order to quit I used several pounds of cough drops to always have something in my mouth and started reading a lot. Reading was the greatest help in quitting. . . cold turkey . . .

I don't regret that I smoked. I enjoyed everyone I ever had and feel sorry for people who never smoked. Nothing like a cup of coffee and a cigarette, or a cigarette at the completion of a difficult task.

It's nice though. Not having to worry about whether I put my last one out, is it still burning...sometimes I'd leave the house and be worried all night that the house was burning

That is the most bizarre thing I have ever read. Please don't feel sorry for me. Smoking killed both my parents. Not smoking is a POSITIVE thing.

I don't think all people get lung cancer or any kind of cancer from smoking. I think you have to have the gene where you're predisposed to getting it. Trouble is, they haven't isolated it yet. My doctor agreed. I was lucky, I know, not to have had bad effects from it. Took a gamble, always worried. It's an addiction and anybody who smokes who tells you they don't enjoy it is a liar. And people get cancer, and people die who never smoked. We can't stamp out death. And social security can't possibly take care of people living into their 90's.

many AA's will say non alcoholic beer is verbotin while others say OK. The other pics he is clearly drinking a different drink than the others which would lead me to believe he is drinking juice or some other non alcoholic alternative. those lozanges last like 20, 25 minutes and that is more than enough time to satisfy the oral fixation and give you the dose of nicotine you need.

The thing is they're a little expensive, like $40 for 82 lozanges. But that's still cheaper than the patch or the gum.

I tried the patch once. Then last year I did Chantix. Chantix was an easy quit, really. I got the nausea side effect, and I had to stop taking it after 2-1/2 weeks. But I stayed off the cigs for 3 months (until there was some heavy duty stress in my life).

I think a guy at work does the lozenges and says they're good.

Smoking tobacco is a very powerful addiction, and quashing the craving for a cigarette is good, but let's face it - quitting a disgusting self-indulgence that will turn your lungs into industrial sludge and pollute the environment is only an act of very basic common sense.
