Dem TRUMP Card against McCain - Who's holding it?
If you saw McCain on MTP today, you know that his song and dance routine is about having being right on the surge. He claims that he stood for it when everyone said that he was wrong. It is the weapon that he is using against both Democrats and his Republican opponents. He states that him standing by the Surge, when every other person running were for Time-table withdrawals makes him the smart one, and as he calls it; that was his watershed moment, or something to that effect. He states that we should not surrender, and we shall win with him as Commander-in-chief.

It is an effective argument, to an awful lot of voters...that in effect, McCain was "right" and everyone was "wrong"...making him a leader with the correct stance (I disagree, but that's how he presents himself effectively).

And so, I believe that this is why we need Barack OBama as our Nominee (there are a lot of reasons actually, this being one big one) if McCain (or Romney) is the GOP nominee.

Barack took a stand early on the War....that it shouldn't have ever been authorized or waged.
He lists how many Millions this war is costing us each day, and how this money could be used on rebuilding our infrastructure. He discusses the lost Blood and Treasure, and highlights the many veterans that have been wounded and maimed and are not being cared for properly.

So when it comes to leadership, Obama was right at the onset.

McCain supported and voted for this War, and so he was wrong.

Anything done or said afterwards is attempting to remedy a problem that McCain was involved in causing to begin with. McCain speaks of being right when it was unpopular. He doesn't yet see that Obama beat him to the punch by several years.

Obama framing Iraq (as opposed to other Dems) takes away McCain's moral certitude.
Obama proves that he is the real "maverick" in this race who stood up for what was right when it was unpopular. Obama will make that argument.

Out of the Dems running, only Obama can be effective in framing that debate. He won't need to sweep under the rug the whys and the hows we got into Iraq. He doesn't have to make excuses for himself, or have to point to being sorry.

Personally that's the argument that I want to throw in the GOP's face.....because that is why Bush's approval rating are as low as they are. Iraq is the reason that no GOP candidate wants Bush campaigning for them.

Obama holds our trump card against McCain, and he will play it. :patriot:

if you wish hard enough, you don't see the fact that Obama has authorized to fund the War, and you are naive enough to believe that the Rethugs won't cut Obama to ribbons as a flip-flopper , just because you Obamites give him a pass.

Sorry, but that I was always against the war stance will fall flat because his subsequent votes demonstrate that WORDS notwithstanding, his ACTIONS supported the War. So, get used to flip-flopper.

4. The contrast
between McCain and Obama would be remarkable. I truly believe Obama would clean his plow in the general election.

5. He's an amoral psychotic?
He's likely to lead us to nuclear war because he's a sad, mentally broken man who has committed unspeakable crimes?

6. McCain is my greatest worry
I've talked to some folks who are leaning towards him. We need to have a lot of good arguments ready to refute anything he says. Thanks for this information.

12. I know a pro-Obama Democrat who would support McCain over Obama
I'm not joking. He should be taken very seriously.

7. McCain is going to change his tune and have a "secret plan to end the war" after the convention
This whole election has been right out of the 1968 play book. So, assume that the war will be out of play this fall.

You will need to attack him on something else. It will depend on his running mate. McCain could drop dead of melanoma any moment. I hate to say this but Dems will need to paint his running mate as potentially the next president, especially if he picks someone like Huckabee to keep the Christian Right vote.

8. Still waiting
For an Obamite to explain to me how his clock wouldn't be cleaned as a flip-flopper on the war, or worse, his being disingenuous that he is against it.

Crazy as a loon McCain can always say he has been for the War. If you look around, people are not focused on Iraq right now. However, using Obama's funding votes as proof, the name flip-flopper would be back in vogue.

THE FACT THAT NO OBAMITE CAN SEE THIS IS VERY TELLING.

9. He has only to say that he would not cut the funding while troops were
in the field.

If he had voted to cut funds, he would be a "troop hater".

11. Anyone has at least one trump card ...
Just keep pushing his buttons. The guy has a hair trigger and can go ballistic on national television. That should be a fun trump card to play.

Should the race be McCain vs Clinton(s), then there are three candidates with hair triggers.

I think we have more to worry about with Romney. He seems more stable, more "normal" than most Republicans.

The trump cards I'd like to see are the Health card, and the Peace card. And of course the Jobs card. Nobody seems to have those in their hand.
