Joe Klein suggests on CNN that "1 in 10" GA votes were cast by Repubs
"Mischief votes" he called them, in the open primary.

Personally, I think Joe Klein is full of shit.

3. the exit poll does suggest 10% were Republicans but
NO ONE can know for certain what their motivations are. Look at the flip side--polls show that more than 10% of Democrats approve of the job * has done. It can go both ways.

4. Don't shoot the messenger
He may or may not be full of shit, but in this case, he's just reading the exit polls. 10% of the voters were repukes, 19% were Indies. They went heavily for Edwards, but that doesn't necessarily mean they were spoilers.

6. That's my point
I think there's some real switchover to Edwards, not just this "mischief" crap.

5. He hopes they were "mischief votes". They were probably trying to help
nominate a Democrat they wanted to vote for over Bush in the general election.

7. According to the exit polls
not only were these Repubs & Indies voting for Edwards, but "were enthused about the Bush Administration." That's how they tell.

Also, I heard there was a right wing talk radio show in Ga. that ran the movement for Bush people to vote for Edwards. They wanted to prolong the primaries so Kerry would not have any money.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger, but it's all a moot point right now.

Those of us who backed other people are sad, but we need to get rid of Bush.

9. I would guess the ratio is more like 1 to 5...
with a similar ratio being cast by independents.

only 25% of the voters supported the Barnes flag, and most of them were Sharpton and Kerry voters. The remaining Democratic primary voters and the Bush voters supported the Perdue version. So my guess is that the Independents voting in the Democratic primary voted for Edwards, but against the Barnes flag. The Republicans who voted in the primary voted for Kerry and against the Barnes flag.

The solid Democrats voting in the primary were evenly split, with the half supporting the Barnes flag being mostly split between Kerry and Sharpton. The other half which opposed the Barnes flag, supported Edwards or other candidates.

10. Not necessarily
There were two ballots, ont for just voting on the flag resolution, and the other with the Demcratic Primary and the flag resolution. There was a lot of confusion over those ballots.
