For those who have a vision of the apocalypse....(Obama or Clinton against McCain)
...place the vibrant Obama on a debate podium with geriatric McCain and watch those perceptions fade away.

Place the tough-as-titanium-nails Clinton on the same podium and watch McCain turn to slag.

Either one of these candidates will win in November. Remember, the goal is to win and remove as many Republicans from office as we can.

The Goal: Remove Republicans.

1. McCain is their weakest candidate
Republicans won't go out en masse to go for him like they did for Bush. They'll stay at home. The only one that has even a chance of motivating them is Romney.

2. Under no conditions will Romney get the social conservatives to vote....
...for him. His "Jack Kennedy" speech is a faded memory and every Republican needs the unholy trinity of social, fiscal and foreign policy conservatives to win.

8. He won't get the religious right either.
Those evangelicals think that the Mormons are a cult, so there goes that constituency.

3. Nooooo! The Republicans are scary! Help! I want my mommy!
:sarcasm:

I agree. We have to form a backbone at this point--we've been fucked with before, but this time the country is leaning overwhelmingly against the Republican party, thanks to 8 years of Bush. The Base hates all the candidates (including/especially McCain) and the others can't defend the fact that this so-called "Maverick" was Bush's best buddy for quite a while after being slimed in the 2000 primary.

If voter turnout at the Primaries is any indication, the GOP is in serious trouble no matter WHO they go up against.

5. After watching John Kerry make a total fool of Chimpy in the '04 debates,
and then Bu*h almost winning that election, my contempt for the judgment of the American voter knows no bounds.

7. Reread Lincoln....
...especially the some and all part.

There are fewer, much fewer, Republicans than Democrats this year. Keep your eye on the goal.
