My Fundie boss (who I convinced to vote for Edwards) told me today...
That one of his friends (who also votes Republican) phoned him out of the blue yesterday, and told him he is voting for Edwards.

How do ya like that?

12. well, I made much to-do about the whole O'Liely - no - homeless - vets thing...
but I think I already had him before that.

He listens to the savage wiener on r-wing radio, and liked to throw out the old "I'm paying for all these worthless bums who won't work" shit. I countered every time he brought that up with the obscene profits of the oil co's that are getting corporate welfare to the tune of millions of dollars every year. Threw in some mega-agriculture subsidies and the amount of 'welfare' compared to corporate welfare and defense spending.

He doesn't bring it up any more. :)

When the primaries started, I would give him day by day summaries of what each candidate said, and what I thought about their policies. I noticed his little ears perk up when I told him Edwards was the anti-corporate candidate. He stewed over it during the christmas break, and just last week told me he would vote for him.

He's come a long way, I'm so proud of him. :)

32. It isn't his/her powers -- it is John's
I AM an evangelical Christian, and I have been supporting Senator Edwards since July. His platform being of the people and for the people resonates with people like me. If you run across someone like us, don't assume bitter distain -- just talk with them about what JRE stands for and give them time for it to sink in. The (R) hijacked the party against their economic interests over moral issues that they never intended to follow through on (as that is the only way to keep the right in line). Just talk with them, calmly and quietly -- it works.

Please note that I am NOT suggesting that we need to pander to the right -- I am saying that we need to show the right why they are wrong. Voting against their own interests is what brought me around to change my party to (D) and have extreme absolute distain for anything (R). It works.

52. What was the "hook"? Did someone talk with you? Did you read something? Watch a debate?
What was it that got "under your skin"?

What you have to say is so important, and we need to hear your voice!

This isn't just about a campaign, as much as I still hope for a positive outcome (an Edwards presidency--be still my heart!) This is a MOVEMENT that must go on full steam now, and we need people like you to guide us, to make this a reality.

Thank you for your insights!

53. How does an evangelical Christian get past the abortion issue?
It is a non-starter for most Christians I know. Edwards may get everything but abortion right for them, but they are just plain stuck on that issue. What would you recommend that people say to address this stumbling block?

18. It Shows His Appeal
across party lines.

I imagine there are a LOT of disaffected Republicants
who are looking at the Democratic candidates. John Edwards
is the one they like most.
He has faith but doesn't use it as a "prop".
He's faithful to his wife where as the last Democrat, uh, well you know.
He's Not an Ivy League scion, he's real Americana (including the "self made" man narrative).
He's quick witted but not arrogant about it.
He posses an aura of capable well intended "Genuosity".
He's taken up the shield of law and the sword of truth
and done battle with armies of the undead (corporate lawyers)
to win restitution for common citizens who were wrongfully harmed.

John Edwards life is a future "Best Seller" with the best parts
yet to be written. If ever there was an archetype of a "damned near perfect candidate",
John Edwards is it.

If the media actually reported the facts in an unbiased way
John would be the runaway favorite.

I hate the way the primaries work. By the time a primary is set in many places, the nominee has already been decided.

30. Wonderful! I am working on my fundie friends as well -- asking them
why they insist on voting against their economic interests over moral issues that will NEVER be repealed (Roe v Wade).

My fundie mother has stated many times that she is concerned that the Democrats will raise her taxes (widowed, fixed income). I told her the other night that she has it all backwards -- that if ANYTHING, *SHE* is the one the democrats are fighting for.

I think I may have her attention.

57. I believe that the primary is where
you declare your party. You either ask for a dem or repugnant ballot. And if there are other issues on the ballot, you can ask for an independent ballot that will just have the issues and no candidates.

Is that open? Sounds like it. I never realized how other states are different from Ohio. And I've lived in other states and never had a problem voting....of course, I always vote for the Dem.

But I tell ya, voting for Obama, repugnant lite, is going to make me hold my nose awfully damn tight.

35. Maybe even they feel they don't like the threat of paying through the
nose, either directly or through insurance, for one or more catastrophic illness in the family, is acceptable, when it is in their power to do something about it.

But there are so many other reasons aren't there? Most economists have come out in support of Edwards as the only candidate with policies able to rescue the nation from the economic "black hole" that it's been careering towards.

But certainly, good news, whatever their reasoning.

40. I love Edwards...but
I tried to volunteer for his campaign three times in New Hampshire, they never sent out regular e-mails, the one e-mail I received was very unprofessional. Every Edwards event I went too was so much poorer prepared and managed, than Obama or Clinton's. It's sad because he would of won in my opinion if he had a better campaign. Clinton and Obama are machines, I receive almost daily e-mails, weekly letters, and a few phone calls.

The Republicans and corporate media FEAR John Edwards for a reason--HE CAN CHANGE THE ESTABLISHMENT!! Why can't the people see there is a viable third candidate who is the BEST candidate to WIN the General Election? Aren't the Democrats tired of losing?
