1. Is South Carolina the new Kansas?
Why do people vote against their own?

2. Are you talking about people voting against John Edwards, when he was born there?

7. I'm talking about people who lost manufacturing jobs
I see JRE as the person who most addresses that.

9. It's a really famous book
called "What's the Matter With Kansas" (I recommend it) and discusses how people knowingly vote against their own self interest. Because of the book, the phrase has acquired a secondary meaning.

11. Okay, it really seemed like you were saying people should vote for him because he's from SC.

12. The book is about people voting against their interests by
voting republican. The suggestion that voting for Clinton or Edwards rather than Edwards is the same thing is ludicrous. The policies of all three are remarkably similar when you sugar off the rhetoric. And Edwards record is certainly no better than the others. And that's being charitable.

14. Edwards has a much better record on trade
The others are free traders; Edwards' trade record is identical to Ted Kennedy's.

16. Um, no.
His trade record is not better than the others. Hell, he voted for the crappy China trade deal- not to mention his lousy vote on bankruptcy "reform".

17. Post the records
You obviously are not aware of their trade records (since Kennedy was mentioned include him too).

What does bankruptcy have to do with trade? St. Obama has plenty of bad votes too but the issue here is trade. Let's stick to that. We can compare all bad votes when it is relevant.

15. Sigh.
Their own everything (of course, mostly their own INTERESTS), but I meant it in a more global sense. Apparently the person who questioned me has somehow not managed to hear about the book.

4. I hope this is close to true but I doubt it.
I just don't see him being 20 points up and no other poll supports it either.

It's a great fantasy though. If he wins by 10+ points, it might have the benefit of muzzling bill for a while, and it would be harder for the Clintonians to spin.

6. The cross tabs for this poll match up with what I think will happen
I see him getting over 65 percent of the black vote and 18 percent of the white vote. It all depends on turnout.

And I have attended 8 of them. His appeal here is far and wide, and extremely committed. It is a beautiful sight to see! :)

5. I hope this is an accurate poll
I'm a bit gunshy but I'll admit I find this bit cheering:

PPP has now done three surveys in South Carolina over the last two weeks. Barack
Obama has been at 44% in each of them. Hillary Clinton’s standing has dropped from
31% in the first one conducted two weeks ago, to 28% in one done earlier this week to
24% in last night’s poll. John Edwards meanwhile went from 15% earlier this week to
19% in this poll.

18. The HC number reveals people aren't aware of the positions of the candidates
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:44 PM by jackson_dem
The one candidate without a universal plan has as much support as the other two. That says it all. Obama relies on ignorance.

23. You mean universally mandated plan?
They're not giving anything to anybody. Sure, there will be subsidies, just like Obama, but they're still requiring people to buy in.

That's going to go over like a lead balloon in the Midwest.
