1. I've noticed it's the day AFTER the primary that things get ugly here
The night of the primary is fairly quiet because people are watching returns, I presume.

one particular candidate's supporters get nasty while the results are still rolling in.

18. Step away from the bong...slowly, slowly
I am in Ohio and phone banked several hundred calls over the last week.

EDWARDS IS TOAST...

He has no support here, and no chance of winning Ohio...AN EIGHTEEN POINT GAP!

HAHAHAHAH

I will be laughing my arse off and doing my happy dance while Edwards is preparing his concession speech...LOL

Edwards can't even get the unions here to let him use a Union hall for speeches...he had to give a speech in a private airport hangar today.

The Unions locked him out of their union halls all over the state.

Poor Edwards ain't gettin' no love from Ohioans.

My prediction: EDWARDS SURPRISES EVERYONE AND LOSES ALL TEN!

Edwards people will still think that he can win, Kucinich people will blame the media for underreporting his candidacy, Dean people will say it's all a DLC setup and a couple of Art Bell fans will imply that Skull and Bones are up to no good. Kerry people will celebrate mildly with Clarkies and look forward to the sweep next week.

Maybe not...but...

If Edwards is no longer viable then it'd be pointless for the Kerry supporters to bicker with them...and vice versa...

That's just my thinking.

There will probably be alot of lamenting Kerry as nominee posts, but I'm strictly talking about Edwards vs. Kerry supporters infighting.

But that wasn't one of the choices. I probably won't venture in here for a few days, IF THEN. There will be the usual assortment of flame-bait posts. The predictable anti-Kerry screeds about how he's Bush Lite, the usual "I'm staying home" or "Voting for Nader" or "I'm gonna vote for _____ anyway and nobody can tell me otherwise."

And that's before we even get to the Kerry and Edwards people. A word of advice for the Kerry-ites: It's easy to be magnanimous when your guy is winning. Remember that. For the Edwardsians, I have no clue what to say ...

At least that's the way I voted in hopes that this group can rise above petty squabbling, and keep it to some real discussion.

Before you post "I'll laugh in the face of Kerry supporters...", "Edwards supporters are brain dead...", "Kucinich supporters are a bunch of hippies" or any other divisive thread, ask yourself whether you want to move democracy forward with this incredible tool that is DU, or if you just want to be "right" in front of a bunch of people...

(1) Edwards poster will rag on Clark for dropping out, leading Clark folks to conclude that all Edwards folk are scum

(1) Dean poster will rag on the media, leading all other Dean supporters to conclude that The Washington Post is aligned with Satan

(1) Kerry poster will say that the Kerry delegate count is now almost insurmountable, leading Edwards people to trot out the "there are still 19 states that haven't even voted yet" line

(1) Kucinich supporter will say "what about Dennis and Hawaii?"

(1) DancingBear will try and stay the hell out the way - and probably won't

Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 08:14 PM by Thistle42
all I know is that I care about getting rid of Bush more than anything. I am mighty grateful that I don't have to vote for Lieberman, and like Howard Zinn, a man I admire, I am voting for the man who will beat Bush.

I say this as someone who has marched in every protest on the east coast since Bush was "selected" by the Supremes. The Voter March held in Washington, DC, was pathetic...hardly 2000 showed up. Where was the outrage? I couldn't believe it! When war was on the horizon, people woke from their apathy and decided to protest in larger numbers from November to right before the war commenced in March. I am very anti-war...a former Army nurse in Vietnam. Many of my fellow nurses marched with me as did the VAIW (Veterans Against the Iraq War). The police in all the marches were respectful, except for NYC on Feb.15th. I was hit by a barricade in the knees by one overly zealous policeman.

I would like my candidate for president to be perfect in all respects...who wouldn't? But,I am older and wiser and know that we barely have a chance to keep this democracy?/republic as we now know it. We want mightily to improve it and snatch it away from the greedy corporations and the incestuous Military Industrial complex, and we write our congressmen and our letters to the editors and what happens? Nada. It will not be an easy road for the next Democratic president whoever he is. The congress is filled with so many "safe" seats that gridlock is the future. Perhaps with our new grassroots powers we can help this dreadful scenario and really bring democracy back to the people. That is our best hope...and like Studs Terkel says, "Hope Dies Last"!

I hope that what ever anger that is manifest, is assuaged by the time November rolls around. We are in great danger...and have been for some time now. I am ready to fight the right wing...not my fellow Democrats.

I voted for the "Beat It" knife fight, because I've always wanted to be a part of an MJ video re-enactment.

You know, some history enthusiasts are into the reenacting the U.S. Civil War... others prefer the Battle of the Little Bighorn (happens down the road from me every summer) - but I want to wear a cool jacket with lots of zippers and snap my fingers!

60. So far election days have been mellow.
I expect to see more of the same. I think that I will be putting up Kerry avatar on Wednesday.

This morning everyone untied their outdoor furniture; flying tables & chairs out here become lethal weapons.

Today we're sunny, 82degrees, trades are blowing.

Thanks for asking, Jim!

108. A Kerry win would be a relief, but the greater battle would be far
From over.

Kerry's position at present seems very close to the Clinton-Biden-Dodd etc, wing of the party.

Moderately liberal on domestic policy, corporate on economics, expansionist and militant in foreign policy.

I will vote for him, but have no interest in his campaign.

87. While some people may prefer an echo to a real choice
I am not one of them! I prefer a choice, not an echo, as Goldwater used to say.

I don't care about how Kerry does in what's left of the primary season and I don't care to hear what he has to say. Kerry is only an echo.

In May I will vote for Dennis Kucinich in the Indiana primary. Dennis opposed the invasion of war and will bring the troops home expeditiously. Dennis wants to repeal PATRIOT, and wants to pull the US from NAFTA and WTO. Dennis also opposes the FTAA, the NAFTA with steroids for the rest of Latin America.

Dennis will cancel Plan Colombia and disband the renamed School of the Americas.

Dennis supports gay marriage.

Dennis is a fighter for the issues I care about. I trust Dennis.

105. I hope things remain civilized...
...but that might be too much to ask. I also hope that the race will continue without anyone dropping out. I want the debate about the soul of the party to continue, I hope that the dialogue will lead up to a resounding victory in November. I fear that if the race is declared over and there is no more dialogue it will lead to apathy and discouragement (and defections to Nader because he will be the only one discussing the issues that many here at DU believe in).

That might affect voter turnout and have bad conseuquences in November.
