I Expect Al Gore to Endorse Barack Obama Just Prior to the California Primary.
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 07:45 PM by David Zephyr
Al will at some point weigh in. And when he does, I expect him to endorse the candidate who, like Al Gore, opposed making war with Iraq clear back in 2002 when the concept was a popular one with the media, with many Democrats (sadly) and with the American people. And I expect Al will endorse the candidate that he believes will be the best for America and our planet. And I expect that Al will endorse Barack Obama.

I know that will be hard for those who support other candidates and that there will be understandable hurt feelings, but I hope that should it happen, that there won't be the gratuitous smears and attacks on him that have happened here before when Obama was endorsed by John Kerry and others.

17. Because California is the Green State and because Al has a lot of roots in Silicon Valley.
We might see Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Steven Jobs and a whole lot of techie CEO's endorsing Gore just before the Golden State's primary.

4. It will be interesting to see the hit his rep here at DU takes if he endorses
any of our candidates. You know the shots that any Dem politician takes here, from opposing camps, when they endorse someone. ;)

21. Early Feb.
That's what I expect. Just before California's primary.

There are a lot of high tech CEO's who are waiting to endore Obama already.

7. did you also "expect" him to get in the race last fall?
Gore will not endorse. 2004 burned him, badly and he wants to stay above politics.

10. No, but I'd hope he would and posted so.
I know you hope he won't endorse because you know if he did it would be Obama. I understand that.

9. I highly doubt it
He doesn't want to sully his environmental work with "politics". He'll stay decidedly non-partisan this election.

13. I wish that were true but
I too doubt he'll endorse anyone. Then again, if he really, deep-down feels that we must elect a democrat, he might just endorse someone. But he would be burning a lot of bridges if he endorsed OBama.

19. Well, we are hopemongers, after all.
Not desperate at all. It's going to happen. And it will be the biggest news in America when it happens.

16. David, I've been thinking this for awhile.

Obama has said if he could accomplish just one thing in his Presidency, he would choose an new energy policy.

His first T.V. ad in California is about standing up to big oil and the auto industry and telling people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.

I also read somewhere that he said he speaks with Gore every few weeks.

I've got a hunch, too. If Gore does endorse him, after SC and before Super Tuesday would be the best time politically. We'll see.

20. That would diminish my respect for President-Elect Gore

If he didn't want to run, he should just stay out of it.

23. I don't see it -
The NH Gore group endorsed Edwards as well as Friends of the Earth. Edwards green plan akin to what Gore wants to see done - Obama is on record for his support of Nuclear and Liquefied Coal, not something Gore would care for. Also, Edwards was on his short list in 2000. I'm not saying he'll endorse Edwards (God, I wish he would), but I think he just may stay out of it.

25. Do people realize that most Californians will be voting by mail earlier than the Primary?
Both my husband and I and most people we know have already submitted our votes....so whether its Al Gore or anyone else giving their "endorsement" right before the primary, it really doesn't make much of a difference....

PS: I also disagree and say that Al Gore is staying out of this...and I think he's more likely to support Edwards if he was to intervene....I just think Al's staying quiet until there is an actually nominee...
