The irony is that Reagan's victory wasn't because of liberal failure but racism
The Gipper and his handlers perfected the southern strategy, the dog whistle of racism vs blatant racism. The fictitious welfare queen with a cadillac and a truck full of steaks and liquor bought by white middleclass tax dollars. The start of the campaign in Philadelphia Mississippi tells one all they need to know about his true motives. Lee Atwater even repented this strategy on his deathbed. It's laughable to see :tinfoilhat:bama followers rolling around in the Reagan legacy like a dog in poop.

4. I found that sadly ironic too. Reagan was so racist, I tink it's why Jane Wyman left him.
that and his backstabbing friends in Hollywood with blacklisting.

5. well, we have a lot of reagan koolaid drinkers here
who still want to believe they voted for him because of "hope and optimism" instead of petty fears and resentment.

7. Not all, the man could inspire people. I hated his policies, but he was "a great communicator"
He was smooth and spun America always in a positive light.

Damn, Reagan, in his early Presidential days, could give an OUTSTANDING speech and the military adored him.

Yes, we all hate "the cheap shot" he did to Jimmy Carter by delaying the hostage relief, all the horrific manipulations in Latin America, Iran Contra, etc. BUT don't lie to yourselves and believe that Reagan could not INSPIRE people, because he was gifted in that way.

8. Yep, but don't forget ingratitude.
The Reagan Democrats bit the hand that fed them. Thanks to liberal policies that created middle class prosperity, the Reagan Democrats had the luxury of indulging their racist tendencies and "putting on airs." The smarter ones didn't take long to revert. But some of them were so incredibly ignorant, ungrateful, and memory-deficient that they stayed in the sucker set, even twisting their kids. They are pathetic.

9. Two additional contributions
First, it was nothing to beat Jimmy Carter, one of the weakest President we have had who, were it not for Ford's pardoning Nixon would have never won.

But Carter did pave the way to put religion into politics. He viewed the world like a preacher viewing his parish. Thus, for the Religious wrong to tie with a party, in this case, the Republicans, was natural.
