You All Are Better Than This
Seriously.

Would you have this sort of debate in public, if you could meet people face-to-face?

Shape up, folks.

Stop mis-stating facts and statements and twisting words around to fit your agenda.

You're better than that.

Attack legitimate things. Not stuff you have to create to seem legitimate.

3. His words are there for anyone to see.
There's an entire book of them.

There's video.

If you don't like what they suggest about your candidate that's your cognitive dissonance, not ours.

7. I'm not talking about Obama specifically
just about all the nonsense twisting of things that applies to all the candidates and their supporters.

It's way past the point of absurd.

17. because the Reagan stuff
is like the straw on the camel - it's just so freakin' absurd. Everyone KNOWS he wasn't praising Reagan or his policies. But they'll start these threads like 'oh, Obama loves Reagan' and stuff and it's just - COME ON!!!

If Edwards did it I'd be just as pissed off, or Hillary.

Making an observation on an election that happened 28 years ago is not the same as praising trickle-down economics or ignorance of the looming AIDS crisis.

It's just not, and it's beyond the pale to suggest as such.

And anyone who misstates things that Clinton or Edwards say, in the same manner, is equally wrong and should be called out on it.

20. No, sorry.
There are several quotations I've read--not just about Reagan's "hope, optimism and clarity"--but also about his skills as a communicator, his ability undo the "excesses" of the 60's and 70s, his ability to read what the people were "ready for," his ability to speak to America's "longing for order," his adherence to "traditional values," etc. that indicate clearly Obama's positive assessment if not admiration for the man.

Not to mention the fact that it's already been pointed out that Reagan's electoral strategy had nothing to do with hope and optimism whatsoever.

23. so are you saying
that Reagan wasn't skilled as a communicator? Funny how he got termed with the nickname "The Great Communicator" then.

I'm not sure about the excesses of the 60s and 70s or what that's referring to, so I can't comment on that.

His ability to read what people were ready for seems accurate - I mean, he did win his election, right?

And America does long for order. We like the trash picked up three days a week. We like the trains to run on time. We like the police and fire departments to be there when we need them. That's order.

Traditional values, as to that, those could be defined in a number of ways - none of them having to belong excusively to Republicans.

25. Just as long as you realize that the excesses of the 60's and 70's
were CIVIL RIGHTS. So when you decide to give THAT a pass as "excesses"...:eyes:

Educate yourself about what was going on in that era.
It was about Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, ERA, Vietnam, Kent State, et al ad infinitum...those are the EXCESSES to which you speak of.

22. Agreed! This is ridiculous. But its the primary season and HRC supporters will twist and
go for the jugular if they think it helps their candidate. Its been going on for many many months here. I don't mind spirited debate on the issues, but I think the spin and dirty political tactics are going overboard.

Keep it to the issues and what is important in this election.

13. infighting is a waste of energy
The sad thing is that people are wasting their energy trashing and character assassinating fellow dems instead of the real enemy, regardless of who wins everyone should be proud to see such a strong field of candidates and stand united instead of divided

11. If they're my local Dem Club
why yes, yes they would. I walk into one of those meetings and half of them are spouting the exact same garbage that is on the blogs.

That's why this stuff DOES MATTER. Once lies get going, it's hard to get them stopped when the GE comes around.
