Latest spam anti-Clinton email: gun control.
Today's contribution from my RW relative starts out this way IN BIG LETTERS:

"Part of Hillary Clintons agenda is strict gun control, please donot become a part of history repeating its self. Politicians sometime have a good reasons to fear an armed population."

That is followed by a long list of countries where gun control was established, etc.

-----------

Any thoughts on dealing with this one?

1. Ignore it?
That's usually what I do with junk like that. If it's already making the rounds, responding isn't worth the time.

whoever is in the WH will demand that they disarm anyway.

9. Hillary was a strong supporter of Bill's gun control policies, including AWB...
see: http://civilliberty.about.com/od/ussenators/p/hillary_clinton.htm

You may not like her positions (or lack thereof) on other issues, either. (ACLU rating rather low.)

You can make what you want of her "sensible gun control" stance, but this term has cropped up in the lexicon of gun-banners in an attempt to show how moderate they are.

6. What is her position on the 2nd amendment?
I hope it's better than her ideas about the first.

11. See my post above, and this one...
http://www.alpheca.com/?P=484

Scroll down to Bruce's posting (the second one) where he will give you this one:

http://massbackwards.blogspot.com/2006/07/sixteen-counts-of-treason.html

You will have to put up with the vitriol (esp. the latter site), but you will see that Hillary joined with fifteen (15) other Democratic U.S. Senators in opposing the Vitter Amendment which would (and does now) prevent the confiscation of firearms from citizens in the case of emergency, re: New Orleans after Katrina. Here (a few days after the storm hit), the N.O. police chief ordered the systematic confiscation of firearms from the citizenry. A number of Youtube videos are out there showing LEO (in one case the California Highway Patrol) kicking in doors in search of guns.

Not a good moment for "liberal Democrats." The Amendment did pass by 84 votes.

13. No sign that she's changed her position
from her platform in 2000.

Hillary Clinton renews call for gun licensing and registration
By Phil Hirschkorn/CNN

May 9, 2000

"Mrs. Clinton, who is running for the seat of retiring Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-New York), added that she supports proposals that would require the licensing and registering of all new handguns purchased in the United States.

If elected to the Senate, Mrs. Clinton said she'd work with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) on her bill that would require prospective gun buyers to first obtain a gun license by passing a background check and a safety course exam. The bill would also establish a national registry to record all gun sales."

If she REALLY wanted to kick her presidential campaign into warp speed, all she'd have to do is put her foot down and renounce gun-control, she'd win by a landslide against Mother Teresa.
