Bill Clinton lies again by denying that he ever said his "fairy tale" comment about Obama
Bill Clinton stated this in New Hampshire at a rally before the primary:

"It is wrong that Senator Obama got to go through 15 debates trumpeting his superior judgment and how he had been against the war," Clinton said during the rally.

"There's no difference in your voting record, and Hillary's, ever since," Clinton said. "Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen."

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Bill-Clinton-Obama.html

Not only was Bill Clinton continuing his career as a pathological liar and soiling the dignity of the American Presidency with his allusions muddying and lying about a candidate for his power-hungry wife who he cheated on many times, but Bill now has the reptilian courage to deny he ever said such a shameful accusation.

When asked on Al Sharpton's radio show about the "fairy tale" comment, Bill Clinton sputtered and lied again.

Al Sharpton asked Clinton, "You had said that Senator Obama's campaign was a fairy tale. How -- how do you respond to that?" Clinton responded: "First of all, it's not true. I have given hundreds of speeches on Hillary's behalf in this campaign. I don't believe I've given a single one where I did not applaud Senator Obama and his candidacy. It's not a fairy tale."

The Goldwater Girl, who supported Barry Goldwater's belief that there needed to not be a Civil Rights Act, probably will have to comment on this tact as well as her downgrading the importance of Martin Luther King.

Meanwhile, we see yet another example of Bill Clinton as a pathological liar willing to do or say anything to pay back his wife for what he did to her.

It truly is time to turn the page. The Clintons are a poison on the Democratic Party.

Surely actual proof of his deeds would not be enough for some sheep, I mean, people.

Bill is innocent of that charge.

There are plenty of fuck-ups to choose from that Team Clinton has made*. This one is press confection.

2. Misleading thread
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 09:37 PM by antiimperialist
Sharpton asked Clinton if he said "fairy tale" about Obama, but Clinton in fact said "this whole thing" was a fairy tale, referring to Obama's claims about his position on the Iraq war that Clinton thinks are inaccurate. Right after Clinton stopped talking about Obama's Iraq claims, he said "this whole thing is a fairy tale". He didn't said about Obama, but about his position on the war.

I recommend a thread by DU'er "Herman Munster" who linked to the video of Clinton's remarks in context:

3. I think he meant about the campaign
It's not true that he said the campaign was a fairy tale. That's the "not true" I think he meant. And he was talking about Obama's opposition to the war and the campaign he built as a result, as being a fairy tale. That's what he meant, not just the campaign in itself.

5. Did you actually read what you posted?
Nowhere does Clinton claim he didn't *say* "fairy tale". He said that he had not stated that Obama's *campaign* was a fairy tale.

Reading is fundamental.

10. Answer these two simple questions
1. Did Bill Clinton refer to Obama's views on the Iraq War as a fairy tale?

The video is here if you need to be reminded of what he said:
http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/01/_by_frank_james_the.html

Then he states this in an interview with Al Sharpton, who asked what he meant by the comment about Obama's views being a fairy tale:

"First of all, it's not true. I have given hundreds of speeches on Hillary's behalf in this campaign. I don't believe I've given a single one where I did not applaud Senator Obama and his candidacy. It's not a fairy tale."

2. Did Bill Clinton say as he says in the interview that he never referred to Obama's record as a fairy tale?

Honesty is easy for some...hard for others.

1. Yes. Bill Clinton referred to Obama's narrative about his views on the Iraq war was fairy tale.

Sharpton says, ""You had said that Senator Obama's campaign was a fairy tale.

2. Your second question has nothing to do with Sharpton's statement. So no. Bill Clinton responded to the statement truthfully. He never once claimed that Obama's campaign was a fairy tale.

51. He didn't lie.
He was careful, and truthful. But in the kind of way that presupposes a lack of cooperation and good will, a lack of openness and sincerity. It's how lawyers talk, and how politicians talk.

Truthful doesn't mean "not deceptive". One can tell the truth, but only part of the truth.

Jake: "Hey, Ben. I have to pick up dinner on the way home and don't have any money. Can I borrow $20 for a pizza?"
Ben: "Sorry, Jake. I only have $10 in my wallet."
(Ben conveniently forgets to mention the three 20s he has in his pants pockets. Ben told the truth. Jake infers that Ben has only $10. Look up "conversational implicature", I assume there's a wiki entry on it, if not some enterprising discourse pragmatist must have a page devoted to them.)

A good faith response would have been to *clarify* what was said: "No, I didn't say Obama's *campaign* was a fairy tale, I said that his much trumpeted divergence from my wife's Iraq-war record was a fairy tale." Then a discussion about what *was* said could ensue.

Instead, there's a denial that will be taken by many--most?--as a denial of having used the word "fairy tale".
