Hillary panders to Hispanic voters in NV, compares issues to 'guacamole and chips.'
Clinton said unscrupulous lending leads to bad mortgages, which lead to foreclosures, which lead to people with nowhere to go and vacant neighborhoods that can go rapidly downhill.

"We treat these problems as if one is guacamole and one is chips, when ... they both go together," she said.

42. I agree.
A lot of hispanics are prejudiced against their black brothers and sisters. Imo, I think it has to do with a lot of them being dark skinned and grew up being called black or the n word from the lighter skinned hispanics, it may have had an affect on them. This is just my opinion from years of observation with hispanic acquaintances, of course.

111. You are correct.
I am almost 50 and have been hearing similar comments all my life from Hispanic relatives, neighbors, etc. NOT EVERYBODY, just to be clear to those who think we mean everybody. But enough to know that all isn't what a lot of people want to believe. My Dad's mom never cared for my Mom because she considered her inferior due to her skin tone and hair. That is the truth. I have no reason to lie about it since it's my own family. Fortunately, as I stated in another post, the attitudes, at least among my own family is changing with the younger generations.

69. I am Hispanic...
In my family, at least among a lot of the older generation most of them would never dream of voting for a Black candidate. Racism is something that a lot of people think is between Whites and non Whites but in fact it exists even among one group. And from one group of minorities to another.

My parents were both Puerto Rican. However, on my dad's side there are a number of lighter skinned people including a few blue eyed blonds, a red headed uncle I had and so on. On my mom's side most of them look like what most people think a Latino should look like: dark hair and eyes and light tan, olive skin. My grandmother on my Dad's side was very racist and for years could not stand my mother and called her my Dad's "black wife."

Also, still among the culture many consider it a "step up" to marry a White person and a "step down" to marry a Black person. It's a dirty little secret that many White people are unaware of or never think about because they only think of racism as something between Whites, Blacks, Lations and other races but not something between two minority races like Latino and Black or even within one race.

Thankfully, it is an attidute that I see improving with each generation.

18. She was eating at a Mexican restaurant, eating tortilla chips. Some "pander"
'Clinton and her busload of traveling press moved from there to the popular local Mexican restaurant Lindo Michoacan, where a "roundtable" that was actually square passed a microphone around to tell her people's concerns about the mortgage crisis and foreclosures. She took notes and munched on tortilla chips.

In broken English, one woman told Clinton how she wasn't making money as a broker anymore.

"I have no income at all," she said. "So how will I survive?"

Choking up with emotion, the woman said, "In my neighborhood, there are brand-new homes, but the value is nothing. I'm glad you are here so I can tell you, because you're going to be the president, I know."

A man shouted through an opening in the wall that his wife was illegal.

"No woman is illegal," Clinton said, to cheers.

Summing it up at the end, Clinton said, "We've only talked to a few people, but each of them talk about some part of the problem we are confronting. This is a problem that is only going to get worse if we don't address it."

Clinton said unscrupulous lending leads to bad mortgages, which lead to foreclosures, which lead to people with nowhere to go and vacant neighborhoods that can go rapidly downhill.

"We treat these problems as if one is guacamole and one is chips, when ... they both go together," she said.'

way i see it, she is being culturally sensitive whereas most people assume cultural hegemony

66. it also doesn't make sense?
one thing leading to another is different than things going together?

unless having guac makes you run out and buy chips or vice versa. hmmm. where does salsa fit into this? what's her position on guac on a tortilla?

OK, time to make lunch.

If this is the worst spontaneous campaign remark we deal with this year, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

94. Why is she so awkward with minorities?
She comes across as someone who has never spent time in multicultural environments, which we know is not the case. So why the hell is she so awkward with minorities? Is it her handlers? They've better get their shit together fast, because this awkwardness could easily be (mis)interpreted as covering up for racism.
