From a Big Boost for Obama to a Sharp Blow
NYT: From a Big Boost for Obama to a Sharp Blow
By JEFF ZELENY
Published: January 9, 2008

....For the last five days here, Mr. Obama made one appeal above all to the legions of voters who turned out at rallies from dawn to dusk to see him: Prove that Iowa was not a fluke. He made that pitch again and again to audiences, which spilled from gymnasiums into side rooms and from opera houses onto snow-covered sidewalks, a tableau of young and old pressed closely together as they cheered his historic candidacy. In the end, though, it was another historic candidacy — that of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton — that appealed to more voters in New Hampshire, particularly women who broke with Mr. Obama in significant numbers in the closing hours of an accelerated campaign here.

Mr. Obama was counting on a New Hampshire victory to serve as a permission slip for Democratic leaders across the country to step forward to support his candidacy. He was hoping to trade the title of insurgent candidate for the perilous crown of front-runner. But the race is now a draw between the two rivals — with John Edwards of North Carolina, who came in a distant third, vowing to continue — and a furious scramble lies ahead.

With a confidence buoyed by a series of polls that consistently showed Mr. Obama leading Mrs. Clinton by as many as 10 percentage points, the Obama campaign was shaken by the loss as the final ballots were tabulated from a primary election held on a glorious springlike day where a record number of Democrats turned out.

If Mr. Obama had hoped to leave New Hampshire as a soaring victor, on his way to seizing the air of inevitability that had belonged for months to Mrs. Clinton, his narrow loss underscored the challenges that lie ahead for turning a political movement into an electoral success. As he addressed his supporters in a gymnasium at Nashua High School on Tuesday evening, he showed no signs of relinquishing his fight.

“When we’ve been told we’re not ready or we shouldn’t try or we can’t, generations of Americans have responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people,” Mr. Obama said. “Yes, we can. Yes, we can.”....

6. Thank God!
I don't think that Hillary winning by 6,000 in a state where she had been leading for a year.....means that we should now concluded this "Wilder" effect. It just makes folks not even want a Black on the Ballot if they can't count on a victory.

Personally there was probably as much of that as there were men who don't vote for women....so it was even.

2. To another big boost. Did you see those union endorsements?
Good news for Obama!

Oh yeah AND he still gets 1/2 of NH's delegates. Not too shabby.

Obama should press on. Let's just see how this wonderful political theater plays out, shall we?

3. I REFUSE to be thwarted. Obama rocked, today, and will tomorrow also.
He is an inspiration that isn't going away, but is hopefully getting some sleep.

5. Inspiration???? just because he is running for president????
they problem with Obama all along is WHAT THE HELL IS HIS MESSAGE? He gets up and speaks about pie in the sky, and the young people this and the young people that. BUT HE DOES NOT, HE NEVER HAS TOLD THE REAL VOTERS AND PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY WHAT THE HELL HE IS GOING TO DO. And don't start that crap about he is inspiring, inspiring to what. If this is they type of people who are coming up in this country today who are INSPIRED by a rock start prancing on stage I feel sorry for the next generation.

Obama needs to get some substance in his speeches, so that the real voters know what the hell he is talking about. Middle age and older voters have been around long enough to know that a prancer on the stage, who makes a splash is not one to run a country. GIVE US A CLUE AS TO WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO. WHY IS YOUR CHANGE, BETTER THAN THE OTHER GUYS CHANGE. AND WHAT IS YOUR CHANGE. Hillary and Edwards have laid their platform out for all to see, I don't know what the hell Obama is going to do.

7. YOUR OPINIONS ARE TIRED.
TALK FACTS, DISCUSS POLICIES AND ADD A FEW LINKS..........CAUSE THESE RANTS OF YOUR SAME ASS OPINION ON OBAMA ARE NOT USEFUL TO ANYONE INCLUDING YOUR CANDIDATE.

JUST THINK IF I TALKED IN MAINLY CAPS ALL OF THE GODDAMN TIME, HOW USEFUL I WOULD BE. :eyes:

To continue in your style:
WHAT HAS HILLARY PROPOSED TO DO FOR THIS COUNTRY!!! Can you tell me? Give me ANY details?
ALL I HEAR IS EXPRIENCE. EXPERIENCE! 35 YEARS! That she is an insider and knows what to do!!! But I want to know WHAT WILL SHE DO THAT SHE HASN'T DONE BEFORE? Where are her revolutionary plans for this country? Where are the details?? WHERE??? SHE IS JUST FULL OF HOT AIR! Prancing about her supposed EXPERIENCE.
I don't know what the HELL she is going to do, if we put her in office! And that is scary!
SCARY!!!!

She owes us some EXPLANATIONS! But she just hides.

 :hi:
