Edwards rebuts Bush; receives Georgia endorsements

ATLANTA, GA. (Feb. 24) - Senator John Edwards (D-NC) Tuesday at a press conference with Georgia legislators responded to George W. Bush’s backward looking campaign speech last night and received the endorsement of over 30 Georgia elected officials.

“The American people want this campaign to be about the future, not the past,” Edwards said. “I have a whole set of new, specific ideas about how to make our country safer at home and more secure and respected abroad, as well as how to create jobs and get our economy going. That's what we should be debating—ideas about the future. We offer leadership and hope, the Republicans want to exploit fears and rehash the past.”

“Come next November, the voters are going to have a very clear choice,” Edwards continued. “A choice between an America powered by empty Washington rhetoric and run for the special interests—and an America powered by new ideas and an optimistic vision of change.”

At the press conference Edwards received over 50 new endorsements, and House Speaker Terry Coleman announced that he is voting for Edwards in the Georgia primary. This adds to an already impressive list of Georgia endorsements that includes former Governor Roy Barnes, who is serving as Edwards’ State Chair. Edwards’ latest endorsements are listed below:
