OBAMA: 'WE ARE ABOUT TO MAKE HISTORY'

Obama: 'We are about to make history'
Posted: Monday, January 07, 2008 7:48 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under: 2008, Obama

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
ROCHESTER, N.H. -- Speaking to an overflow crowd outside the town hall in here, Obama told the crowd that history will be made tomorrow in the New Hampshire primary.

"I hope all of you are not only going to the polls yourselves tomorrow," he said, "but also that you're going to be grabbing some people and telling them we are about to make history here and you want to be a part of it. You don't want to be looking back five years from now and saying the American people really rose up and changed America, and I was sitting on the couch."

Trying to make his victory not look too inevitable, he continued, "Everybody understands that we got a lot of work to do, we got one more day. If we follow through then I think tomorrow could just continue to build what we started seeing in Iowa. What's most important about that is we doubled turnout, young people voted like they never voted before. We got Independents and Republicans to cross over voting in a Democrtaic caucus. This is the start of a working majority. This is how we're going to change politics and change America."

The crowd stood in about a foot of snow listening to him and chanted, "Obama! Obama! Obama!" after he finished speaking. The speech was broadcast on loudspeakers outside and about 100 people remained to listen to Obama on an unseasonably warm winter night before the primary.

The earliest polls open at 6:00 am ET (mostly cities, most towns open at 7:00 am ET) and the latest close at 8:00 pm ET (though most close at 7:00 pm ET). Every municipality sets their own time. Manchester opens 6:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm ET.

1. I'm excited...
This is the first election I'll be able to vote in so this whole process is exciting. Waiting for results and watching the coverage is like prepping for the Super Bowl. With my Steelers out of the playoffs and my LSU Tigers season ending tonight, it's nice to have something exciting to hold my interest!

31. I haven't noticed that about MSNBC
I'm mostly a CSPAN viewer, myself. If what you say is true, I welcome the competition to CNN- that's Hillary's channel.

I wonder how the ratings are comparing...

Oh, and GO Obama!

14. Wait till you see the storm on election night, you won't like it
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 10:31 PM by billbuckhead
Wait till you see the storm on election night, you won't like it when blue state after blue state turns red and it's called for the GOP before midnight. Then Candy Crowley is on CNN gushing about how the war on terror trumped "change" in the end. Alan Keyes and Herman Cain will be on Fox saying they knew all along American would reject racism................. Then Rove will be on C=Span grinning and backslapping about the great job Huckabee did in winning the battleground states and how President McLame will continue "the war on some terrorists". Wait till later when it's clear Obama wins the popular vote but loses decisively in the electoral college and hillbillies are firing their muskets in the air celebrating beating Hussein and Osama at the same time.

Meanwhile Obama will go back to the Senate a richer celebrity, a major figure in the history books and the rest us will suffer one way or another.

20. I want someone who can win and the Clinton's have won before
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 10:55 PM by billbuckhead
Obama has only beat Alan Keyes and changes the dynamic of the election into one that favors the Republican's instead of us. Instead of an election about Republican treachery, failure and corruption, the election turns into one about whether America is ready for a black president with a Muslim name. From one end of Appalachia to the other, rednecks won't vote for Obama not because he's black but because he's not one of THEM. They think they're the ones being discriminated against. I talk to dozens of people in the Atlanta suburbs every day from all walks of life and I know at least 20 Hillary intenders who won't vote for Obama. Ex-military people who think it's unpatriotic to vote for someone named Hussein Obama. Career women who think Hillary has been screwed over by men. My mom thinks Obama is a Republican plot to stop Hillary from winning. There are moderate Republicans who would vote for Hillary or at least stay at home, who won't give Obama a chance because of the decades of corruption of black politicians in Atlanta who raise their taxes and get caught stealing or helping their cronies.

I lost a job for supporting Kerry but I could stand it. Our nation cannot afford the vanity of the Obama candidacy.

and many of the same people and precesses will be back. Obama has no real record to extrapolate from or criticize other than voting "present" 190 time.

Harold Ford is arguably a stronger candidate in the south than Obama and he couldn't beat the mayor of Chattanooga.
