Group of [NH] Citizens Concerned with GLBT Issues Endorse Obama
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 10:57 PM by jenmito
Group of Citizens Concerned with GLBT Issues Endorse Obama

A group of New Hampshire citizens, concered with GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) issues have endorsed Barack Obama. An excerpt of the letter is below, only with a list of the people who signed the letter.

Those of us signing this letter have analyzed, as thoroughly as possible, the candidates who are running for President and believe that Barack Obama will best serve the interests of our GLBT communities.

Obama understands discrimination on a gut level. The African American fight for civil rights has been an integral part of his life, his education, his identity. For that reason alone he stands out as the candidate who has the potential to truly understand our own history of striving for recognition and equality.

Representative Ed Butler, Hart’s Location
The Reverend Robert E. Stiefel, Ph. D., Dover
Representative Gail Morrison, Sanbornton
Senator Harold & Betsy Janeway, Webster
Rev. Dr. Leanne McCall Tigert, Concord
Edwin Allard, Laconia
Carol Shull Perkins, Plymouth
David Weber, Exeter
Bill Stelling, Amherst
Roberta Barry, Keene
Carlos Cardona, Laconia
Paul G. Smith, LCMHC, Chichester
Levey Saintil, Portsmouth

42. Rep or Dem, gay or straight, there's always a group that want to tell others how to think
Like if you're from the GLBT community you're not smart enough to review the candidate's views, and must accept a uniform viewpoint from some mysterious source that may have a different agenda other than GLBT rights.

That's dehumanizing, it's abhorrent , and people that imply all GLBTs should think alike are about as tweaked as they come when it comes to this issue.

Meanwhile, some people are thoughtful enough to make up their own minds.

Even Canadians

17. Who knows?
It would strike me as odd for an LGBT group to give such a ringing endorsement to a so-called "progressive" candidate who hired a known bigot to headline his campaign event and still refuses to apologize for the hatred this bigot unleashed at the event.

A real friend to the LGBT community doesn't spit in their face while ignoring their protestations when it was announced that this "ex-gay" clown was going to participate in the concert. I don't know why you're so hell-bent on giving Obama a pass on this titanic insult.

I hope they have a better basis for their decision than that, as they imply in the 2nd paragraph.

The facts are that statistical evidence is quite clear that women have faced and today face substantial discrimination. Dismissing sexism as somehow less worthy of consideration than racism is simply wrong.

some of the people on this list are friends of mine. Ed Butler is someone I love dearly. Disagree with their decision to support all you want, but don't question their commitment to GLBT issues. Last year NH had a marriage equality bill in the legislature, and a civil union bill. I testified about half a dozen times before committtees - and I saw some of these same people at every hearing.

I don't understand their choice. I don't understand NH Freedom to Marry endorsing Edwards, either.

To assume that gay voters are single issue voters is silly.
