18. He has one thing going against him though
Money. And the Repuke corporate puppetmasters won't ever actually let someone who sincerely believes the fundie claptrap into office.

25. The corporatists can't control a genuine fundy believer.
Most of them - like the chimp - are fake. Huckabee is the real deal, and that is much too dangerous for the corporatists on Wall Street to allow. He will not get the nomination. Which is too bad, because he would lose.

The religious thing was just an act. Huckabee's the opposite, though; he's a genuine evangelical, but not a corporate tool.

It's a good speech.

His Republican populism will earn the ire of the money men, though.

4. He is charming. But he has too many skeletons and too little money
If he gets the nomination he has the same problem that Edwards has, he took matching funds and will be broke until August. The Dem nominee can tee off on his skeletons, and he will have to sit there and take it.

and he seems to be as incurious as Bush is. I don't think that even the Republicans want another president they can have a beer with.

I think he did well for the same reason why Hillary didn't--he represents a chance for a change from American politics as usual.

...but if he does, he needs to be watched very, very closely...He's just got enough of that "aw shucks" bullshit, that the 14th century religious views he holds get slightly overlooked...

He has some very, VERY dangerous ideas and needs to be monitored closely..

26. If We Behave Ourselves
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 10:52 PM by Crisco
I think Huck comes across as very likeable - as the guy Bush was pretending to be in 2000.

That said, his views are soooo extreme, that I believe he can - and should - be defeated with sugar rather than vinegar.

Consider the YouTube possibilities.

The republican machine would be in full force behind this man if he somehow manages to win the nomination, and the Christo-fascists would supply *plenty* of money. He's far more dangerous than most think.

29. terrific speech
Ok now I am worried a little more then before I heard him speak. Obama has to hit a home run speech and I think he will. The problem with Huck is that he is likable, knows how and when to use humor, and gives a rousing type of speech. I don't take him lightly anymore. Those days are over.

30. This is what they always do
They use the same words Democrats use - but they mean the exact opposite. They buffalo the Republicans. Then the malcontents mix it all up together and run off and vote for Nader or something.

We cannot have Huckabee as President.

he is a master at deflecting these issues. He tells people that he's tolerant and won't push his religious views and they believe him, despite all evidence to the contrary. That 'aw, shucks' avuncular attitude could carry him very far.

36. well, I've been warning folks about him
he's got mega-issues, but the media seems to gloss over those things with Republicans.

Here was my LTTE on him from last week's Hartford Courant... please comment & rate it if you can.
>>>

James P. Pinkerton tries to make Mike Huckabee out to be more moderate than his media image. In reality, the slick Huckabee is actually far more conservative and scary.

During the 1998 Southern Baptist Convention, Huckabee was a signatory to a full-page USA Today ad from the convention that endorsed women graciously submitting to the leadership of their husbands. That was 1998, not 1098, and it's certainly not a mainstream view.

Although most Americans personally oppose abortion, polls consistently show only 20 percent to 25 percent want to eliminate it, as Huckabee does.

46. Evangelical homeschooling female bloggers for Huckabee
I love reading organizing blogs. (Don't ask me if I actually am organized. I'm a work in progress.) One hosted a virtual holiday home tour last month. Ooo, I love to see what other people's homes look like inside! Most if not all of the blogs that linked to the tour belong to women who are evangelical homeschoolers. Out of just a couple of dozen blogs I visited, I saw widgets saying that they support Huckabee. There were none for any other candidate. These are people who vote and who attend churches with congregations who vote. I thought then that Huckabee might be the nominee.
