My primary journey led to Edwards: the most trustworthy, passionate, and sincere
I can't help feeling that this election is a clear crossroads, a fork in the road if you will, with the direction we take making all the difference in our collective future. The future does not lie in the hands of one man or woman, but rather in the hands of all of us ... now and after the election. Whoever takes office, it will be up to us to hold them accountable for their actions ... and to taking action of our own, independently and collectively, to ensure that our interests are being served and the issues close to our hearts (and heads) are being addressed.

Either we keep spiraling into the abyss of debt and deficit, dismal foreign policy, Constitutional erasure, widening class divides, undue and unchecked power among corporate interests, and less and less true representation of the American people in Washington ... OR we will elect a leader who will not solve all the world/s ills, but will definitely lead the way to a brighter chapter in our American experience and evolution as well as a more positive, responsible role in the world community.

We all know this. The question is: WHO?

During my primary journey I looked at the merits and issues of each candidate through direct and supplementary sources, virtual and personal contact, printed materials, media coverage, citizen media commentary, and candidate appearances (to me, the most valuable). The debates were no help because they didn't do much to reveal the candidates or their ideas. They were more like rapid fire game shows, tongue in cheek talk shows, and sometimes a combination between the WWF and Saturday Night Live.

5. Based On What He *Does* - Not What He *Says*
Edwards sounds more like http://www.jumpstation.ca/recroom/comedy/python/dennis.html">Dennis Moore than Robin Hood:

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore
Riding through the land
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore
Without a merry band
He steals from the poor.
And gives to the rich
Stupid bitch.

Look: Edwards was deeply involved in a hedge fund that focused on predatory lending. Seriously.

He didn't just vote for the Iraq war - he co-sponsored the hellish thing. (Incidentally, most Democrats in Congress voted against it.)

He voted for the bankruptcy bill written by credit card companies to fuck the middle class, and he voted for job-obliterating "free" trade with China.

4. trustworthy?
That is the quality that led me away from Edwards. Not just the abrupt 180 on his previous record and staunch support of the Iraq War. But also the photo-ops for the poor while collecting money from the hedge fund he worked for and invested in, claiming not to know of their deep involvement in the sub-prime mess (either he is two-faced, or he is not a good manager--neither is a good sign). And now his campaign's prior communications with the 527 (yes, the email the New York TImes revealed yesterday that no one is talking about) and its half-million dollars from a corporate donation of dubious ethical standing (the company's head, Mrs. Mellon, is 97 years old; her lawyer made the donation to the 527 from her corporation's funds).

I don't understand how this inexperienced fellow with a brief, unstellar political career and a campaign strategy based on yesterday's polls gets so much trust invested in him. I honestly don't understand it. And neither do most of the people I know. But go figure, it's America. Talk is cheap, but then Wal-Mart is too.

7. trustworthy, passionate, and sincere... oh yea sure...
"But the story is slightly more complicated than that. After his birth, Edwards's parents did indeed bring him home to a mill village; in TV and print ads, the campaign has often used pictures of the tiny house where the family lived. But the ads don't mention that Edwards lived in the house from the time of his birth until he was . . . one year old. By then, his father had been promoted at the mill and the family moved to a much nicer home. That house does not appear in Edwards's commercials."

the coast - there you go again, making assumptions, thus making an ass of yourself. I live in single family home, my husband and I work over 40 hours a week to provide for our two kids. And yes, the vision John Edwards has laid out is the one I want for my children, the chance to go to college, to ability to have secure jobs, Health Care, the promise of living in a cleaner environment and having the chance to live the American Dream through hard work. What does Biden offer? Where is his green job intuitive? Where is his Health Care plan? If my husband lost his job during a "Biden Presidency" - could we get Health Care? I feel confident I could under an Edwards Presidency. This is Democratic Underground, a place for progressives and democrats, I kinda wonder where you would fall ... perhaps a bit of to the right.

http://www.johnedwards.com/issues/plan-to-build-one-america.pdf Pick a topic - make sure you have some time, it's 80 pages long.

I really don't care to listen to sound bytes - there are a zillion with Edwards in the political videos section that cover the same topics. Your first link doesn't point to anything and as for some of the others, I found Edwards to be more passionate and believable - at the JJ Dinner and the DNC Address. I don't agree that Biden is more suited for change and there are many here that agree with me on that. He is part of the broken, corrupt system that we have now and I want a President that represents my views and that's Edwards. I have supported Edwards since 2003 - his Two America's speech was the first time I have heard any politician talk about what really ails this country and Edwards is offering real solutions.

40. well my number one issue
Edwards fails at. from that link:
"Outline of the Edwards Plan
Require by law that every American have
comprehensive health coverage, including mental
health coverage.

Require businesses to either cover their employees
or help pay their premiums.
Make insurance affordable by creating new tax
credits, expanding Medicaid and SCHIP, reforming
insurance laws and taking innovative steps to
contain health care costs.
Create new Health Care Markets to give families
and businesses purchasing power and a choice of
quality plans, including one public plan.
Families without insurance will get coverage at an
affordable price."

sorry that is mandatory health insurance. I cannot support that.

Public health or commonly called "universal Health care" is what I and Joe Biden see as the only option for America. http://www.joebiden.com/issues?id=0003
