Pro-Clinton Group Disguising Its Attack on Obama (falsely implicating Edwards)
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 11:59 AM by JohnLocke
This is truly low, even for Mark Penn and Hillary's team.

Pro-Clinton group disguising its attack?
From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
Wednesday, December 19, 2007

----
Some of the first negative mail in Iowa on the Democratic side is out, and it's anti-Obama. A new direct mail piece (PDF) from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) accuses that: "For those without insurance, Barack Obama's band-aid solution is no change at all."

On the reverse side, the text of the mailer continues, arguing that Obama "claims his health care plan covers everyone, but his proposal does not match his words... Instead, Obama took the timid way out, offering yet another band-aid solution."

"Barack Obama's plan," it concludes, is just more of the same."

Here's the kicker, though: The piece quotes Edwards from a Sioux City Journal article in November saying that that "as many as 15 million Americans would be without coverage" under Obama's plan.

But, as it turns out, AFSCME is backing Clinton. In fact, even though Clinton and her campaign have been arguing for the past month that Obama's health-care plan doesn't insure everyone, Clinton's name isn't mentioned once on the flier. The Edwards quote makes it appear to be a slam by the Edwards team.

This tactic, it seems, could be intended to deflect the distaste that most voters have for direct attacks -- even those that are policy based. But those in the know might think that this new negative mail is Iowa Nice playing a little dirty.

2. So, since AFSCME's message is correct, you attack the messenger?
:boring:
Didn't you post this two days ago, when it came out?
Why not just go kick your old thread?

5. Don't worry...Iowa and NH will weed her out...
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 12:10 PM by TwoSparkles
We've seen Hillary up close and personal--and she's not
faring well.

Since her days campaigning here Hillary has:

--Attacked a questioner at one of her rallies, because he asked her a question
about Iran. Hillary accused him of being a "plant" in front of the entire
crowd.

--Planted questions in a speech at Grinnell college. Then lied about this
being a campaign tactic. Then another woman came forward--at a completely
different rally in another town--and said that Hillary's campaign also asked
her to ask a planted question.

--Attacked Obama on an essay he wrote in Kindergarten!

--Has had one of her directors outed for sending out Obama attack emails--that
accuse him of being a Muslim.

--Used attack surrogates (Penn, Bob Kerrey) to attack Obama on religion.

--Run a vacuous, empty-rhetoric campaign--in which she speaks at big, impersonal
events and hides from authentic dialog with voters.

We see her for what she is. I just hope the rest of the country has an opportunity to
see this wretched nonsense up-close-and-personal--so she can be weeded out of this
campaign.

14. Thank you for this "up close and personal" look at HRC, straight from the
battleground. Much needed with all the disinformation being spread by HRC and her supporters! Kudos to Iowa :-)

19. When you see what's going on in the campaigns...
...and how that directly contradicts the MSM reports and what some
cheerleading bloggers purport--you begin to wonder if the Hillary campaign
is nothing more than smoke-and-mirrors.

All of this leads me to believe that some of the polls are corrupt, and being
used to prop up her dismal campaign.

The Clintons are a cancer on the Democratic Party. I'll buy them a ticket to Punjab anytime they want. Third Class, of course.

7. I don't think Obama's compulsive when doing that, just inexperienced.
The Triangulation of Present! votes and sucking up to the GOP can be grown out of with a few more years in the Senate.

12. I'm almost entirely certain...
...that AFSCME doesn't send out Iowa political mailings without somebody high up in the Clinton campaign seeing it.

16. Exactly
AFSCME got their marching orders. They are not on their own in this. Anyone who follows politics and knows how it works knows that at some point in the meeting where they devised their plan, they had to have some kind of sign-off from the campaign that gladly took their endorsement.

The Clinton campaign should ask the group to pull the ad if it is indeed inappropriate, but that's a different issue.
