Elder Bush nixes Clinton trip idea

Elder Bush nixes Clinton trip idea

Bill Clinton said Monday he and former President Bush would go on a diplomatic mission if Hillary Clinton became president.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former President George H.W. Bush has shot down his successor Bill Clinton’s idea of a diplomatic mission under a Hillary Clinton presidency that would send him and other notables abroad to assure other nations that “America is open for business and cooperation again.”

The move came one day after Bill Clinton made the suggestion on the campaign trail in South Carolina, in response to a question from a supporter about his wife’s “number-one priority” upon reaching the White House.

In a statement sent to CNN Tuesday afternoon, former President Bush’s chief of staff Jean Becker said that he “wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of hope for freedom and democracy.

“President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for president, and looks forward to discussing their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined.”

21. I agree with you. Poppy has been cleaning up after Dubya for a long time.
It wouldn't surprise me much if Poppy did help out another Clinton presidency, but it would be very quiet.

If a pubbie wins, Dubya will be begging to be sent out to patch up Jr.'s mistakes.

The relationship between father and son in the Bush family is very, very complex. I don't like it played out on the world stage.

He's such a friggin egotist he thought he could charm daddy bush into going around the world trashing his dumbass son. 60. Yeah, sounds like someone hasn't gotten the msg. about our
current president, the international criminal. The one who started a war without provocation. The one that ignored that "piece of paper" called the Constitution, all agreements made by past Presidents, like the Geneva Convention, etc. Called Germany, France, etc., Old Europe.

Is this how a Democratic President will get things done, by cozying up to the Repubs - again??

We need to wipe the slate clean and let the world know that George was a fluke and criminal. No more excuses.

Highly doubtful that any of that reflects the sentiments of Senior. For all his faults in other areas, he at least had the common sense to know that toppling Hussein would be a colossal blunder. Only the true, die-hard kool-aid drinkers could ever say that they are proud of America's current global standing. Personally, I am ashamed of it.

59. Hitler didn't actually refuse to shake hands with Owens
He was told by the Olympic committee that he had to shake hands with all of the athletes or none of them and he only wanted to shake hands with the German team.

The media sensationalized the story creating the myth that Hitler specifically snubbed Owens.

Not yet Bill. And it isn't about having the honeymoon cruise blabbed about in the press to boost his wife- somehow?- as a wisely embracing unity candidate. It is because they have no intention at all, whatsoever of letting the Clintons slide into the Oval Office. Bill may not know it again but he about to be jilted, left abandoned on the dock, the champagne boiling in the sun, left to tragically wander alone
the foreign capitals and corporate offices stroking his ego and smiling at the adoring availables.

This is a humiliating shadow of a once great candidate whose major gifts were tragically(for all of us) limited to his own success.

Frankly, I'd counted on Poppy to be our go-to guy for global puke-on duty.

Now, with him out of contention, we're at a national loss as to who can perform this crucial function of Statehood.
