U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah endorses Barack Obama for president

PHILADELPHIA—A Philadelphia congressman is endorsing Barack Obama for president.
U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah says the Democratic senator from Illinois deserves the nod for his commitment to education and his pledge to improve the economy. He also cites Obama's call to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq.

Fattah announced the endorsement Tuesday. He says Obama is the candidate with the best chance to restore America's prominence on the world stage.

In May, Obama supported Fattah in his unsuccessful bid to become Philadelphia mayor.

The other leading Democratic candidates for president include New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.
