NBC: 'Frenzied enthusiasm' for Edwards in Iowa

This might explain why Obama has started attacking Edwards by name over the past few days (from NBC/National Journal):

The two candidates both spoke at Mason City on Saturday night, and experienced a reversal in roles, with Edwards packing a huge hall that was so crowded that the press left their risers and went into the balcony to shoot the event. Obama also drew a sizeable number of people, around 450, but in a comparison of press reports by NBC reporters, it lacked the frenzied enthusiasm that greeted Edwards.
There is no doubt that after Edwards dominated the final Des Moines Register debate, we can summarize his closing argument to Iowans with one word: FIGHT. While one candidate thinks that lobbyists are actually a good thing, and another hopes we can all get along, Edwards understands that this kind of thinking by Democrats in the Senate and the House is why we're seeing one surrender after another to President 24%....more after the fold...

1. First they ignore you...
then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win -- Mahatma Gandhi

Attack away, Obama. It just draws more attention to Edwards.

5. Edwards needs to keep playing it smart.
Stay positive and when Hillary or Obama attack just smile and keep talking about helping us fight corporate greed.

too.. hillary needs to down for all the politics of personal destruction that she and her crew have, not so subliminally, verbilized on Obama since they stared getting desperate.

2. Gephart did well in Iowa a few election cycles back, Edwards seems the most
populist like Gephart we've seen this time around.

I'd love for him to get it. An Edwards-Obama ticket would be unstoppable.

13. Honestly, if Edwards gets the nominatiion, I'd expect someone like Biden
Not necessarily Biden for sure, but someone with a ton of foreign policy experience as I'd expect Edwards to focus on domestic issues and seek advice on foreign affairs.

4. Love this comment by Xover today on the Kos thread at 1:48, wish I had written this.

And for every thing, there is a season.

Because of income inequality in the United States, it is the season for a fighter in the White House.

Corporate greed (unregulated market capitalism) is causing incredible income inequality in America. The money of the wealthy is spiraling beyond sight while contemporaneously destroying the middle class. Must I repeat it?: THE MIDDLE CLASS IS DYING!

The ecomonics of John Maynard Keynes served America well during the Great Depression, World War II, and the rebuilding of Europe via the Marshall Plan. When regulated by an informed government, capitalism can do great things to promote the general welfare. And, in conjunction with labor unions, build the middle class. Achieve general income equality.

Corporate greed economics, however, through Movement Republicanism, has successfully dismantled the great creator of the American middle class: labor unions. Hence, the gulf in income between the richest Americans and the middle class is back to that which existed before the election of FDR. Under the Republicans, America is going backwards. Unregulated market capitalism is merely a return to the times of the 1800s -- to the times of the robber barons. Corporate consolidation of power must therefore be attacked, and attacked vigorously.

Hence, the idea of "healing" that Barack Obama (rightfully) wants so much to create simply cannot happen at this particular point in American history. Obama's inexperience will not let his mind control his wonderful and sincere heart. I love Barack Obama. But the man is not right for this time in which we now live.

American needs forceful leadership. America needs a fighter. America needs John Edwards.

Could it be that America is starting to "get it?"

8. Ok, first somebody should say thanks for this post in loud hurrahs because
it zoom-lenses our weary spirits into north-central Iowa on a damned chilly day, where two popular men were vying to lead the nation.

If anybody here is from Mason City, I hope you appreciate the voltage from these two people's appearances in your town.

I believe the Edwards event was at Music Man Square ("...You ought to give Iowa a try...").

Two national campaigns with very historic impact and potentially greater impact descending on Mason City, Iowa.

How cool is that?!

9. Edwards has the right message for the time
He is tapping into the base in a big way and the base is who is most likely to show up and vote. Can his message get out to Democrats in all the other states? That is the question! If it can I think he will win. If not then I think Obama will win. Hillary picked the worst year ever to run a centrist campaign! Stupid!

12. Ha!
Well Fineman on Countdown said and I quote loosely, "That it's not that BAD if Edwards wins Iowa-because the main thing for Hillary is that Obama doesn't win it because N.H. is only four days later." SO... no matter what Edwards wins-it's only in relation to Hillary. I guess he's doing crap in N.H. then-or maybe he'll win there too-but it's better for Hillary as long as that dastardly Obama doesn't win-because as we all know-and we must believe our media-it's down to Obama and Hillary only. (Even if Edwards wins)

Obama... rise above it and ignore. Their days are numbered.
