Isn't it interesting that Obama first revealed his drug use more than 12 years ago
and his book received renewed attention in 2004 and then again last January when he announced his presidential run.

So why is it now a major topic of the mainstream media - AND ON DU - today as if it's a brand new issue?

Just asking, is all.

21. You can't blame it all on Hillary's people
Most of the discussion I've seen in this forum has come from non-Hillary supporters. And the mainstream media may blame this on the Clinton campaign, but I haven't seen Hillary's people on the air repeating this over and over and her campaign has said lots of things that the pundits haven't bothered to shove down our throats - it is the MEDIA's choice to beat this dead horse.

(And please spare me the childish names for opponents. Not only does it detract from your message, it's just plain silly.)

26. They called the media
Would you really want the media to just let a campaign get away with accusing an opponent of dealing drugs? It's still in the media because Hillary had to come out and apologize today.

31. Hillary had to apologize yesterday because it was all over the media
and it is STILL all over the media. And it will be all over the media tomorrow and Sunday.

At some point, this is beyond anything that Hillary did or can do. The media is on a feeding frenzy.

Too bad they weren't this interested in drug use by a previous candidate.

28. BS. This has been getting coverage from time to time since he announced.
And the media hauls it out whenever they see fit.

Has had it suggested that they were also drug dealers.

I think it was just pot, but I don't recall anyone being concerned they were going to be accused of dealing it.

How would anyone make money from it if everyone who used it was a dealer?

24. Not that much
Most people who smoked pot back in the day also did at least one drug or the other. Hash, speed, shrooms, acid, coke, something.

23. Edwards has
and I believe others have, too.

But that's not my point. Had Obama admitted this last week, of course, this would be a valid story. But he admitted it 12 YEARS AGO!!! And he came into this race almost a year ago. So why is this story being harped on THIS WEEK?

He's even bragged about his drug use, while accusing Bill Clinton of lying about his drug use.

"Of course I inhaled --that was the point"

9. Oh goodie! Another Obama drug thread....
We needed this one. The others were slip, slip, slipping away.

It's a major topic because many Obama supporters want it to be. It's the only way they can accuse Hillary campaigners of gutter politics, because....

...doing drugs is a gutter thing.....

38. Unlike alcohol.....?
Alcohol is a drug and much more dangerous than other drugs especially because it is so available.

Cocaine, for example, is very expensive and so not so easily available.

Ask Obama about that. He didn't do much cocaine because, he said, it was too expensive.

12. What difference does that make because
posters are putting stuff about Hillary Clinton on the site that happened 20 years ago, and 15 years ago like she kills cats...so what's dust for one is dust for the other. But of course again, Obama can do it but you can't rears it's head.

16. Clinton apologized about her campaign using the story yesterday
Of course, they are bringing it up again today. It's pitiful really. But based on some polls where the issue of Obama admitting he did drugs in high school in his book and opponents bringing it up, the strategy is backfiring.

I would hope that this "vetting" keeps being brought up. It only makes Obama's support bigger and stronger.

It happened all of two days ago. When was this polling conducted? Or did you just pull that one out of your ass?

29. I think it's smart that he's bringing it up...
That gives him control over it...

Well, more or less, anyhow...

What I'm struggling to say is that he isn't reacting to the story coming out against him...

When you tell the story yourself, then at least initially, you control how it comes out...
