Biden backs contempt citations for Bolton & Rove---Statement
December 13, 2007 -- Washington, DC Former Senate Judiciary Chairman Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) announced his support today for issuing contempt citations for White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former Dep. Chief of Staff Karl Rove for refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas for documents and testimony on the White House's role in the firings of several distinguished U.S. attorneys.

Executive privilege protects certain communications between the President and his top advisors. It doesnt shield criminal conduct, it cant thwart Congress constitutional oversight responsibility, and, contrary to the Presidents belief, its not an absolute, blanket protection from answering Congress questions, said Sen. Biden. Executive privilege can only be invoked in response to specific questions and document requests; subpoenaed witnesses have got to show up and invoke the privilege.

6. how ironic.
Joe gets kudos for backing this, (that's good) and Leahy who engineered it gets more of the usual shit about how he's nothing but a gasbag.

7. Indeed. Here's Leahy's release
from the same site:

Senate Judiciary Committee Approves Contempt Citations For Karl Rove, Joshua Bolten In Bipartisan Vote

Wonder how it'll play in the full Senate. Here's hoping!

8. I was pretty jazzed about the move...
before Biden gave his support.

I don't blame people for being skeptical and/or cynical about anything Congress, and if Biden can change some minds about the Government's ability to act, then that says alot.

9. I'm all for Biden supporting it and giving him credit
but I find the frequent bashing of Leahy, just pathetic.
